Why Chmelar a year behind Laba?
Chmelar is in his D+3 season, but he's only a sophomore. He also missed a significant amount of time this year with an injury. It's possible that he could sign this summer, but I think there's a good chance he plays 1 more year in college.

Laba is also a sophomore, so I'm not convinced that he signs this summer, but he is the leader of that team. He has 28 points in 29 games and next highest has 22 points. To me, it feels like he is more ready to move on, but it's anyone's guess as to what will actually happen.

If Chmelar was healthy this season I'd sign him but he wasn't

could have happened a long time ago if this idiot organization didn't bury him down the depth charts. but thats for another thread.

Perreault is on a different path.
The silver lining is that had Laf (or Kakko) realized their potential sooner, we would have had to pay them a lot more, meaning the team wouldn't be as good now.

The way I see the prospects' moves to Hartford (Assuming they get offered an ELC):

2024: Noah Laba, Bryce McConnell-Barker, Vittorio Mancini, Dylan Roobroeck
2025: Gabriel Perreault, Jaroslav Chmelař, Kalle Väisänen*, Hank Kempf
2026: Drew Fortescue, Hugo Ollas, Brody Lamb,
2027: Ty Hericks, Rasmus Larsson

*Won't be AHL eligible for his first ELC year if he's under 22

I don't see them signing Maxim Barbashev, Zakary Karpa or Oliver Tärnström
Ollas will presumably be the #1 next season and would be almost 23 when the season is over. I would think he signs when his season is done and turns pro full-time for the 25-26 season.

For the 25-26 season the only young goalies we'd have under contract are Garand and Boyko, where we'd hold their RFA rights. Boyko doesn't seem likely to be retained which would leave us with Garand. I would think for sure they'll bring in Ollas after next season. It wouldn't be a total upset if they brought him in at the end of this season.

They are the same age (draft-wise). They are in their sophomore year in their D+3 (Laba was drafted at age 19, a second-year eligible. He was a 2021-draft eligible like Chmelař). That said, Laba is a P/GP for Colorado College and has been flat out dominant for long stretches.

Chmelař dealing with injuries is a bit of a question mark, and I wouldn't mind him staying in college another year. I just think Laba is further ahead development-wise.

Yeah, goalies are so hard to project. I could make a case for 2024, 2025 and 2026 when it comes to Ollas based on his own progression, the team's depth and his NHL rights status.

GP sitting out another game and presumably the weekend.

Hopefully the injury is nothing too serious. Can’t find anything about it online.

Hopefully they are being conservative holding him out given these are relatively meaningless games..first round of Hockey East tourney is in 2 weeks, hope he can be back for that.

No Gabe again today. Announcer said it's not expected to be a long-term thing, so hopefully that means he's back on Saturday for the final game of the regular schedule.

lol. I just posted the same thing in the Prospects thread. Left from watching the Hartford game to see Perrault play, heard the announcer give the news about Gabe. Back watching Wolf Pack.
