Doesn't the AHL most playing Friday through Sunday games? Would Monday through Thursday off not be enough time to focus on strength training for Gabe?

If he leads the league in scoring as a Freshman, it's going to be difficult to keep him in the NCAA for another season...
Especially if BC wins a national title. He's also going to be a Hobey Baker finalist for sure. Not much more to accomplish at that level. At that point the logical step would be sign and play a season in Hartford.

I'd let him stay at least 1-2 more years. Build that man strength as we've seen it's benefited Cullye greatly, and to a lesser extent Edstrom's ability to go with the pace.
100 percent agree. Don't care how many points he scores but unless he absolutely hates playing college hockey at BC (which I doubt) let him stay another year after this. We should totally be done rushing prospects.

I'm not sure he will see it as 'rushing' if he leads the entire nation in scoring as a Freshman though...

If we look at it from the kids eyes, he just dominated his first season at the next level. He can make SUBSTANTIAL money moving on. I understand we would prefer he stays for another year but he may see it otherwise...

Agreed. As much as folks here have noted that he still has things to work on at that level such as D zone coverage, transitioning out of the d zone, and board work/strength, if he's determined by the voters to the best player in the NCAA as a rookie how can you not sign him and move him up?

Prospects in NCAA can sign a contract only after their college season ends. Technically it's possible he signs his ELC at the end of this season, and he could play a handful of games. His ELC would be slide eligible but there is serious value in him playing 10 games and burning a year.

As he won't be on the team long enough to accrue a pro-season, it would result in him being a 10.2(c) status player. That means he will be RFA in 2026, but he would not be eligible for an offer sheet. It gives the team all the leverage in SPC negotiations.

The Bruins did this with Charlie McAvoy for instance.

This scenario would also apply next year if he stays in college another year.

I meant after our season is over in June, not for him to come up ala CK for the playoffs, I think he definitely needs an offseason of training.

The first of the bolded is a strength and the second has improved a ton.

DZ coverage is the ultimate whatever skill for me when a player is young. He's willing, he'll learn as he goes.

But 165 lbs is 165 lbs. On that end theres so much room for growth and another year in college would mean the additional time he can spend training there plus 2 full summers before even stepping into a NHL camp.

OTOH, if he conquers most of the big things in the NCAA you'd have to weigh how much of a set back sending him back next year could be. People get bored when they're not longer challenged. I'd probably prefer him in the AHL unless you're booting one of Kreider or Panarin if he were to sign. Don't Gallant/Quinn the guy, he should be getting every minute of ice possible to continue honing his skills. On that end, it would be pretty much guaranteed at BC.

They can give him an ATO and have him play in Hartford this season if they intend to sign him this summer.

Per CHN app 1-0 BC after 1st
The goal was an odd bounce that went over the goalie, scored by Gauthier.

Gabe had a semi-breakaway 20 seconds into the game but was too tight to the goalie by the time he controlled the puck to really do much with it. He had a couple other decent chances to earn a point. They had 2 PPs and neither was very good.

UMass has kept the Freshman line at bay. Yeah, both PP’s were kinda meh. Not BC’s best game so far.

Game has been pretty boring.

Cutter has 2 flukey goals, Leonard scored a nice goal, he’s pretty juiced up this game playing in his hometown with friends and family in attendance.

Except for the 3 games in which Gabe didn't get a point, this might be the longest he has gone in a game without getting a point.
