The question is do these three all stay for next season? If Perrault keeps this up, do you consider signing him in the summer?

Smith probably leaves for the Sharks. I can see the Caps keeping Leonard there. Is a full AHL schedule worth it? Feel like Hartford is finally doing well with the younger players.

Even if Smith and Leonard go pro, I would keep Perreault there for another year. Because he could then really take the reigns. Show everyone that it was actually HIM on that line that was the catalyst.

Cutter Gauthier will likely go pro as well. BC would be Perreault's team.

All 3 should stay. I don't think any of them are NHL ready and have areas of their game they can work on, and Gabe could use another year at the BC gym to continue to get stronger. Much easier to get in good workouts and grow at the NCAA than at a pro level where you have games all the time.

But teams love to rush 1st rounders so I could see one of Smith or Leonard getting signed.

Smith as a 4th overall pick will be turning pro, I think. Sharks will definitely go after that aggressively.

Philly wanted to sign Gauthier last summer, but as we all know he refused.

Gauthier I would assume will 100% turn pro, he's got 2 good years under his belt at the NCAA level and he's ready for the next level.

Smith probably does turn pro like you said, but I think it would be beneficial to stay another year. But the Sharks stink and they need people in the stands so they will want him turning pro if he's ready or not.

Yeah, I don't think it's in Smith's best interest per se, but the move makes sense for the Sharks.

I always think it's a bit silly to say "well he/they are playing with such skilled linemates it's hard to tell how good they are" well in the NHL your skilled players play with your other skilled players too....very few guys can play with third liners and bums and excel, there's always some benefitting from playing with other good players. If Perreault stayed but didn't have a lot of talent with him then yeah I'd expect him to struggle more

BC has Hagens coming in next year who will be a top 5 selection in 2025 who Perreault would certainly play with if he stayed and the other 2 left.

He'd end up doing what Gaudreau did in his Junior season and some people would still attribute it to Hagens (who IS pretty excellent.)

Yup. I can understand this sentiment when a prospect is projected as let’s say middle-6er who. The said prospect could start his career on the lower lines and eventually wind-up there full time thus impacting offensive production. But in case of Perreault it likely will be top line or top-6 from the get go either in the AHL or NHL so “but he plays with skilled players” is a wasted acknowledgment.

I don't think any of the three are frauds being carried. I do think, even just watching them for a bit, there's an undeniable chemistry (both natural and through experience), that they benefit from. I'd expect slightly less production if you replaced any of the three with an equally skilled player.

It's good to be hyped (although it will be funny to watch the inevitable turn) but lets not go making stuff up now!
Yes your right, it was that he led the team in scoring when the knockout games began, i mis-remembered. He was 2nd in scoring overall for all the games, forgot Cutter got a bunch of meaningless points vs some terrible teams early on.

btw I should say I don't mean to infer you, specifically, would turn on Gabe as I know you have always had the defense/patience with NYR prospects (ex. Laf and Kakko) but I meant the other half of the board who doesn't.

Drury has to keep the 2024 1st so that Jimmy keeps his free flow of hookers, coke and Glennfiddich 21 at the Sphere. So.

Nick Dowd straight up coming to a theater near you on the 8th.

I had a drink with Jim at a club on LI back in the late 90s.

Very happy guy with a BAC over 2.0.
