i wonder how many old dog PTOs come to try out..

surely theres room for a few more stewie Stew gimme contracts...

i mean it wont matter, cuz they are just warm bodies to help in training camp. they wont be signed or actualy play..

oh wait...
I’d be happy to place a bet that they won’t sign any PTOs if you’re willing.

If Hart bounces back the Flyers are probably a playoff team, it’s that simple. Of course, AV will likely tear a rotator cuff from all the self back patting that will come along with that.
No, they mitigated that risk by hiring one of his old cronies to replace Lappy as back patter/scratcher.

It’s not f***ing baseball. On Xbox. Crossplaying Diamond Dynasty against PlayStation. But waiting forever to play because you’re on Series X and they’re on PS4. It’s not any of that. It’s hockey.
I finally got All-Star Ohtani. Thanks for asking.

I like that we are venturing into "can we actually know anything about players?" territory. It's taking an unusually strong and unreasonable form of denial to believe Ristolainen will completely change everything about himself by going from a bad team to an average-at-its-best team devoid of defensive structure and support.

I wonder what his win/loss stats are like? Is that still considered a definitive stat?

Not just if he completely changes. We spent a ton of assets on him and moving Ghost. All for a player who has one year left and therefore a contract year. If he kills it, you know they are going to pay him for it. If he sucks it’s a massive massive failure.

It's an overpayment, for sure. But after trading Myers for Ellis, we needed someone to fill that spot on the 2nd pair. I would've prefered someone like Savard because he would've been cheaper, but we got Ristolainen and I guess we just have to hope that he delivers.
Moving Ghost would've happened no matter what. We didn't trade Ghost just to make room for Ristolainen.

No they definitely moved Ghost to make room for Ristolainen.

If we needed someone for the second pair, they probably should have gotten someone who has played at that level before.

They moved Ghost because he's a shadow of himself, made too much money and got in the doghouse with two different HCs.
The funny thing is JFresh's profile of Ghost was almost identical to the profile for Yandle.
People are nostalgic for the Ghost of Christmas past, but that ship sailed and sunk.

Turns out Munson wasn't available (wife didn't want to leave SCal), Savard is a more physical version of Braun (offensive cipher who's more of a 3rd pair guy), etc. The Blue Jackets were using him less than 20 minutes a night, he was being outscored significantly at even-strength, and the Lightning gave him just 14 minutes a night in the playoffs after trading a 1st, 3rd and 4th rd pick for him at the TDL. And he's 30 years old.

Weren't a lot of FA options, Barrie wasn't leaving Edmonton (and an awful fit with Sanheim),

I think it was an overpay (but look at what Savard cost), but I'm willing to give Risto a chance before I bury him.

RHDs are at such a premium I think Flyers have to focus on cross training York, Zamula, Hogberg and Andrae rather than overpay Risto if he turns out to be the Buffalo Risto. Right now Attard, St Ivany and Wylie are pretty much it in the organization.

If being a shadow of yourself is reason for getting rid of players then this whole off-season has made no sense, as Chuck's acquisitions are dominated by players who are shadows of themselves.

Nay, it's because they needed room to fit a pet Chuck has been chasing for years. The MacDonald sequel needs to be worse than the original because that's how the Flyers do.

What baffles me is that there were supposedly multiple teams offering 1sts for Big Ras and it was essentially a bidding war. There must just be wildly different perceptions of him among NHL front offices.

It's amazing to me that for as long as advanced stats have been around relative to the amount of posting some people do here, that they still don't understand how they work.

Take 15 minutes and educate yourselves, people. That's really all it takes to understand what they do, what they measure, and what their limitations are and aren't. Then we can all have actual conversations about past performance instead of strawmanning "advanced stats hurr-durr" all day long.
Like people would ever do that. Are you kidding?

Huge difference between 2yr at $4.5M and 1 year at minimum wage.
