Well Trouba did Lainie did Stastny does and now Nate the great does . I think you are onto something cause Benny and I are here and we also look better .

Actually, Thompson was fine in the 7 regular season games (we went 6-1) when he was playing 10 minutes at 5x5 and 2 minutes a night on the PK.
He was fine on the PK in the playoffs (xGA/60: 3.98), like a number of forwards sucked at 5x5.

Winnipeg cut his 5x5 TOI to 8 minutes a game. And his PK to 1:22, but he wasn't very good at it.

However, if Thompson plays half the games this year, something is wrong, Laczynski never gets over his hip, Frost flops at 3C, Brassard can't play center any more or some combination of bad outcomes.

Given 10 roster locks (G, Couts, TK, JVR, Hayes, Atkinson, Farabee, Lindblom, Laughton, Allison) you're looking at:
Frost, Brassard, Laczynski, NAK, Thompson, Bunnaman, Cates for 2 spots.

Frost is almost a guarantee for one and Brassard for the other, so Thompson would be the 13th forward in the press box, NAK is a good bet to be traded (also Bunnaman if they don't think he'll clear waivers) and Laczynski starts in LHV. Any longer term injury and they're more likely to call up someone from LHV than play Thompson on a regular basis.

In all honesty, a potential mix of -

Farabee/Coots/Konecny
JVR/Hayes/Allison
Giroux/Frost/Atkinson
Brassard/Laughton/Lindblom
Thompson/NAK

Provorov/Ellis
Sanheim/Ristolainen
Yandle/Braun
Morin

Hart
Jones

could be pretty solid.

I still think there's one more move to clear out a roster spot / salary. Possibly NAK.

Of all of the lines posted, these are by far the most unusual

I originally had Oskar with Coots and TK :)

I just think there are so many roster changes that it will take a while to figure out the best combinations and so it doesn't really matter what order I put them in - it's likely to be wrong.

I do like the idea of putting G with Frost and, say, Atkinson or Allison. Two gifted playmakers with a goal scorer? Yes please.

Honestly don't know where to put Lindblom. Unless he is able to find his A game again, he's kinda 4th on the LW depth chart behind Farabee, G, and JVR.

They can't carry 14 forwards so someone would have to be waived to get Frost on the roster (it's not happening).

Exactly - that's why I think there's one more move coming to give them a bit of cap breathing room (and to avoid losing a player on waivers for nothing).

Regarding Thompson in Winnipeg last season, nothing that he did there should be counted as a positive. The Canadian division was pond hockey personified. Actually the fact that he played as few minutes as he did is confirmation that he's an awful player at this point in his career.
that division was so bad.

So Manson was apparently on the trade block but denied a move to Winnipeg...

I would have preferred him far more than Risto as a good defensive D to compliment Sanheim.

I was one of a few who hoped Manson would be targeted. Where did you read/hear this tidbit, please?

I actually like the idea with Frost with G and Cam. Two solid vets to help the kid along. Problem is then G and Cam are down on line 3 which will cause heads to explode.

The narrative with the Brassard signing was that he was signed for depth purposes. To go ahead and trade someone before the season would go against that.

Problem is waivers, NAK won't clear, Bunnaman probably wouldn't clear, Morin is also a good bet to get claimed.
With Foerster and Wisdom (probably back on the ice by January) both RH, and Brink and JOB RH (next fall?), they may be willing to move NAK.
Bunnaman can fill in at center if needed.

Yeah, though I'm guessing if G and Atkinson are on the "3rd" line, they will still get PP/PK time and bonus ES time when needed.

I don’t care about NAK. He had his shot to be something here and it didn’t happen. There are better players than him competing for a spot.
Losing guys off of the roster is the way that it should be when a team drafts well. A problem occurs with this when it’s not young up and coming guys pushing out vets but when recently signed over the hill has beens shoving out younger players.
