When he's going, he's that 3rd/4th line guy who can move up the lineup in a pinch and not look completely out of place. His problem is that he only shows up like that 1 out of every 3 or 4 games..........and is a complete liability when he's not in form. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde stuff.

Yeah, he's had a hard time stringing together consistent efforts this year.

To be fair, the most consecutive games he has played is 8
Bench 2, Play 6, Bench 5, Play 8, Bench 6, Play 1, Bench 8, Play 3, Bench 16, etc

He is a career .41 ppg and this year he is .42.......so consistently inconsistent?

Thinking of how he worked his way into the lineup as a regular toward the end of last season, particularly with Cozens, where there wasn't as steep of a night-to-night variance in his impact on the line.

I think Mitts + Greenway creates a massive speed/quickness disadvantage for that line. Hopefully they're able to overcome it with positioning and active sticks, and hopefully with Jost's hustle as well.
Thats a fair concern but I don't feel they're slow either... I'd argue Olofsson is the slowest out of the 4. I like the idea of how much of a pain they can be in the O-zone more than I am worried about there speed.

But we will see tomorrow (If no changes are made.)

Could be, but I expect Kulich to stay in Rochester and get plenty of call ups until injury or trade gives him a full time open spot. Savoie would be on the team from day one, if he makes it.

With re: Savoie, I don't think the Sabres will want to waste a year of his ELC. I wouldn't be surprised if they played around with his 9 games next season and mix in some "conditioning assignments" in Rochester along with letting him play in the WJCs around the holidays ala Shane Wright. Then he finishes either on the Sabres' or his junior team's playoff rosters.

This was an interesting read.

Here are the results:

Mattias Samuelsson (7) [Mitts, Dahlin, Comrie, Anderson, Tuch, UPL, ZG]
Vinnie Hinostroza (3) [Cozens, Krebs, Thompson]
Rasmus Dahlin (2) [Jost, Greenway]
Alex Tuch (2) [Skinner, UPL (I guess he split his vote...)]
Casey Mittelstadt (2) [Power, Quinn]
Zemgus Girgensons (2) [Samuelsson, Okposo]
Tyson Jost (1) [JJP]
Ilya Lyubushkin (1) [Thompson (another guy that got two votes)]
Peyton Krebs (1) [Bryson]
Jack Quinn (1) [Stillman]
Henri Jokiharju (1) [VO]

Nobody should be surprised that the 3 goalies all voted for Samuelsson:

And if they re-sign Girgensons, here is why:
Olofsson voting Joker is so perfect. Elite hockey unawareness on display at all levels. A perfect Vic pick.

Even still.....eventually the cap will go up and Weegar's $6.25M might wind up being only slightly annoying towards the end of the deal. And there's always a team out there who'll take a contract with the right sweetener.

If Calgary is blowing it up....and Weegar wants to come here.........it's a picture-perfect fit for us.

acquiring a player with the strategy to buy him out for 6+ yrs of dead cap space……why not also acquire KK while you are at it. He has a 1/3 u26 buy out plan

The outcome of where they project Kulich into the lineup is also an interesting debate. He's playing some at center in Rochester with some mixed results - some days the scoring chances are there, some days not/some days the defensive game is there, some days not - and yet seems like he projects out as a mid-line winger. Savoie is small but playing as determined a center game as anyone out there in the WHL but is he going to be able to play at that size in at the next level? Should he be a winger too or does he transcend it like Point does for Tampa?
If we can, we need to do everything we can to capitalize on Savoie’s faceoff success. Been a huge inhibitor for us the past few years. It’s the type of thing that doesn’t get much attention but absolutely translates to wins over the long term.

By start of 24-25 these are set In stone

Skinner-Tage-Tuch
Peterka-Cozens-Quinn
Kulich-Krebs-Savoie

And then on D and net Levi, Power, Dahlin, Samuelsson. We need a trade for a top 4 dman without a doubt.

Joker pinched instead of physically challenging the player, that's why he slipped through 2 of our guys; if he would have closed the gap, I doubt the opposing player would have gotten through.

Actually he stepped up to gap-adjust. It was not a pinch on the puck, he had to take those strides forward to have enough room between himself and UPL to try to play D. If he didn't do that, his options were stand still and wait to be walked, or start backing in to gain enough momentum to play D on the advancing puck and run into UPL before the puck carrier closed the gap - neither are really actual solutions.

If he had "pinched" and actually tried to play the puck , he may have succeeded in breaking up the pass and holding the blueline, but had Farabee gotten the puck to Frost, it would have been an unchallenged break-away since Quinn was also challenging the puck and ignoring the streaking frost (who was by far the most dangerous player on the ice at the moment).

Ultimately it is both of their responsibilities to identify Frost as the most dangerous player on the ice as the obvious outlet on the play and communicate, but it would be more likely that Joker's assignment is Farabee since Farabee had the puck and Jokiharju had position on him, and Quinn would be responsible for the trailer coming in and focus on closing that passing lane there at the blueline.

I'd hope we will have found a way to to mix in some two way play and physicality in our top 9 by then.

The solutions we need aren't going to be 100% internal. In fact, if that is what our forward group going into 2024, we are probably still sitting around wondering why a team that scores so much is still sitting on the outside of the playoffs....again.
