They have a young team up and down the lineup and the team wants to ride it this year. Disagree all you want, but it’s that simple.

When everyone told you that all off-season, you kept saying how bad of an idea it was because we’d be horrible. You were very very wrong.

Now you have completely flipped and said it’s a bad idea because we’re good and should be going for it
They're an average team in a league of mind numbing parity.
As constituted they will never go anywhere near the top.

I don’t think you try to replace tuch. We needed to add to the bottom six anyways. Shuffle olofsson up. Find a physical winger. Also get Talbot and send comrie to Rochester.

You’re obviously not going to spend enough to get a player that’s already of Tuch’s caliber so the natural progression is just to find sufficient depth to bolster the lineup until he gets back.

Given Ottawa's goaltending situation you could probably just send him back in the deal for Talbot.

Hino's probably been playing 20 to 25 minutes a game for Rochester. So I feel that he should be ready to be inserted anywhere in the lineup.

Who fills in for Tuch? I feel like either Mitts or Jost are the two who have the energy and skill to play there. Get asplund in to center the 4th line
Cozens shoots right, maybe move him to wing and see if Tage and Skinner get him going again? All we need is one good line with such a stacked D and impenetrable goalies.

There would be nothing more DG like than Rochester to top line.
I think Mitts takes Tuch's spot. Both are tenacious on the forecheck, good board work, great passing, speedy and have great shots. Tuch is better at all those aspects but they are similar. I imagine Hino/Asplund takes Mitts spot.

Adams could inversely call up Bjork, to make Hino more "moveable" and not hurt anyone's time by stapling Bjork to the press box and pray to whatever God he prays to that if he waives Bjork the day before trade deadline a team who needs a warm body grabs him.

If they are serious about making a run:

Get Talbot, send comrie down
Add a d
Add a bottom 6 F with good defensive chops and some bite.

Status quo isn’t gonna get it done.

still dont think thats serious, you cant have 1 reliable line and 2 lines that disappear for stretches

and i think thats why adams is resistant, he doesnt want to move on from Quinn and Peterka but the honest truth is as long as those 2 aren't reliable point generators, this isnt a serious team

unless you just mean make the playoffs in which case just dont have 1 of the worst pks in the league and they should be fine, which you're doing the long way around, but if the goal is just to make a run at the playoffs over 57 games they've shown that the status quo may, in fact, get it done because they are a point out with 1 in hand

long way of saying, and i think @Doug Prishpreed made the comment a week or so ago, there is value in forcing the kids to take ownership of this season and put it on their shoulders to cross the line, but you also gotta be willing to fail to do that, good points on both sides

edit: as I was looking up some stats for this post I saw that Dahlin has taken over 20% of the Sabres minors this season, I have not deep dove it but I wonder if that has anything to do with the caliber of the sabres pk

I mean, the additions i mentioned isn’t going to reduce any of the kids ice times, at least at forward, especially with tuch out long term.

We’ve need another D all year. We’ve needed an upgrade to comrie all year. We’ve needed a good PK forward all year. This would just be fixing unresolved issues.

With Tuch out I'd go with:

Skinner-Thompson-Cozens

It's top heavy but having a great first line is important. Thompson and Skinner need the defensive help as well.

Mittelstadt-Krebs-Quinn

Tell them our playoff hopes are resting on their sbility to work their asses off.

Girgensons-Jost-Asplund

Shutdown line just to stay in the game. Asplund is rested time for him to wake up and save his career.

Peterka-Olofsson taking extra shifts at times with one of the centers.

I would trade for C/RW Sam Lafferty (he's already being sat by Chicago for trade reasons). Lafferty checks the box for bottom six duty, PK, and Okposo replacement for next year. He's all kinds of the gritty player some have been hoping for. He's a physical right shot that can skate well, and is signed for cheap for one more year. He should cost a 2nd, not exactly worth it but easily beats any other offer.

They regularly dress a defenseman who they try to shield from taking any PKing time.
