Have Chychrun anchor his own pair and play more even minutes across the pairs. Depth issues resolved. Everyone gets to breathe except the opposition.

If we're pulling the goalie, put JC out there and let Dahlin or Power go rogue.
Samuelsson-Dahlin
Power-Lyubushkin
Chychrun-Jokiharju

That's definitely a playoff calibre blueline.

Reading a bit on the Preds team board. There's a team where the Sabres might be able to make a smart trade to fix a bunch of issues. Sabres could use a legit 3C/4C type and another defenseman. Preds are looking to get younger and also could use some scoring. Their PP isn't real dangerous, and they've scored the fewest goals in the league. The Preds also don't have a ton of cap room, they aren't losing a lot of UFA salary this off-season, and have 5 RFAs to pay. Some names they threw around on their board:

Sissons: 3C/4C type that might not be worth $3M a season anymore.
Fabbro: stagnated development, playing on the 3rd pair, will want a raise this off season as an RFA
Jeannot: they love his play style, but he's going to want a pay upgrade they may not be able to afford

Their board wants to move Johansen and a couple other players, but they realize that contract is going to be hard to move. So here's a deal I'd offer

- Olofsson (50% retained). Pure goal scorer who can fit right in on their 1st PP.
- Fitzgerald. RD to replace Fabbro on the 3rd pair, isn't going to get a huge raise.
- 2nd round pick 2023

-for-

- Fabbro
- Sissons

If CBJ agreed would you trade Savoie + 2023 1st for Jireck?
I would not, because I really like Savoie and I'm not that high on Jiricek. I always more liked Nemec. I think there are dozens of other options for RDs where we don't have to give up our best prospects and maybe even don't have to give up our first.

Problem is that Poile is a dinosaur and he doesn't seem to do anything at all.

I'm not sure it's possible for a team to be more ready for "accelerating the rebuild" than being the #1 offense in the league.

How much better does the team need to be before it's ok to spend assets to fill holes.
I get where you’re coming from but I don’t see them moving away from their plan/focus for this season. In part because that approach gets some credit for the success and in part because they have more work to do within it.

The only moves I could see them doing is adding players who help long term.
Accelerating the rebuild prematurely was a huge mistake, but isn't prolonging the rebuild when the team has already progressed to the next level just as big of a mistake?
We’re only 1 and 1/3rd seasons into a rebuild. I’m not sure how we could be considered “prolonging” things this early in the process. I mean the kid line has existed for only about a month

I've wanted Sissons for a few years now. He gives me Gaustad vibes with how he plays, and the role he fills for Nashville. Not quite the monster Goose was, but he's still got decent size to him.

A line of Girgensons-Sissons-Okposo would be a gigantic pain in the ass to play against.

Then a 3rd line of Asplund-Jost-Mitts ?

OK.....I buy that all day as a solid bottom 6.

I don’t think I ever realized that the only skaters in our healthy lineup that weren’t first rounders are: Sammy, Peterka, Olofsson, Bryson and Boosh

Not counting the depth D or forward scratches
Make it guys not taken with the first 32 picks (the current first round) and you can another name off the list.

D is a priority, of course, but if you can get a good striker at the right price, why not? Our third line is still in need of improvement, and Cozens' line has also cooled down a bit and received criticism from Granato. We really have a lot of assets with which we can improve 2-3 positions and our pool of prospects will still remain huge.
One thing about the second line for people to remember is that JJP and Quinn have never played even close to this many games and minutes. Its alot on young players just to play 82 games, but getting second line minutes magnifies it. So expect fatigue based letdowns. Additionally, we just had 4 straight roadgames, meaning the other team had last changes and controlled matchups. That will effect an inexperienced "kid" line more than a veteran line. At home Granato can set them up better.

Surprise week off would be a great time for Adams to do what he should have done months ago on defense!

But there’s probably no difference between this week off and all the other weeks he’s taken off

Adams needs to improve the defense. We can make the playoffs. Stats like these don't miss the playoffs.

They do though.

15-16 Bruins 5th in goals/game and missed
14-15 Stars 2nd in goals/game and missed
12-13 TBL 3rd in goals/game and missed

On top of that almost every season pre-covid a team in the top 10 in goals scored misses the playoffs. I don't know that Buffalo finishes in 1st by the end of the season either, we have yet to really see if this level of play is sustainable over the course of an entire season. I don't expect the number to crater, but they may drop a few spots.

difference is the roster freez

You know there's a roster freeze, right? So Adams pretty literally can't do anything you're begging him to do.

Ok but aren't we first? Shouldn't you be comparing first to first not 5th, 2nd or 3rd? Thats not 1st like the sabres are 1st. We are 1st not 2nd, 5th or 3rd.

Please post who finished first in goals in 15-16, 14-15 and 12-13 and we can go from there.

He added we don’t know if they can sustain that level of production.

That's why we need a better third line, not Olofsson and Mitts.

I’d rather look for an upgrade to Bryson more so than worrying about the top 4. Chychrun would be overkill for that.
We are in no position to be turning down players for being too good. Players like Chychrun are rarely available.

Power-Joki were looking solid before Joki's injury. Id put Chychrun with Lyubushkin.

Im still not keen on giving up so many assets for Chychrun. Would rather find a cheaper top-4 option @ RD.
My thought process is that I want to pair our puck movers with stable defensive guys. I think Boosh could unlock Power more than Joki does and at the same time Joki could play to his strengths more with Chychrun.
