Has Clague surpassed Bryson in level of play this season?

As players get healthy I think they will waive Pilut. That would still leave 8 D once everyone is healthy. Will they want to waive Clague if he keeps improving?

I've seen some posts about different trade scenarios and prospects that we might be willing to give up.

I truly hope our organization has a good grasp on what we actually have here.

I'm not convinced they do tbh

Pilut goes back and I doubt there is any issue with anyone anywhere claiming him at this time. As for Clague vs. Bryson (or Fitzgerald), the margin is slim right now for how Bryson has fallen off and Clague has elevated. Both are warty so it comes down to what sort of warts are they willing to accept.

How did Davies play?

Or was the ice time not really sufficient enough to make any kind of judgment?

They're both on bloated long-term contracts that pay them for what they used to do, not what they are worth now. Both players would be terrible for Buffalo's cap over the next 3-4 years.
They both have three and a half years left on their contracts, they're not too old yet, but I haven't seen them play lately, have they dropped that much?

Not terribly, but their cap hits make it a moot point. Fowler isn't the type of D-man Buffalo needs. Ekholm is more like it but 6.25/yr for a 32 yr old declining player is a bad move.

I would think about Ekholm, three years is not such a long term and we will not have problems with a cap in the coming years.

It is this:

Which is also one person holding cables in a precarious position to play off the old expression of "give 'em enough rope and they will hang themselves" which has always been how I have moderated. So... now you know.
Thanks". Sky Boys".

The extra cap space we will have, imo, should be used toward long-term core players, not older guys for shorter term purposes. The only older vet types I want to see added are TDL rentals on expiring contracts that fill an immediate void for a playoff run.

I like Clague over Bryson and Fitzgerald. I think so far he has done ok but sample size is too small.

Well, we need defenders and I'm considering different options.

If we can take a short term cap dump to get someone on defense that would be ideal. Even getting draft picks for a short term cap dumb and flipping it for defenders would be great.

I am not sure the pegulas are into that though.

I don't believe there is such a thing. At least not for the Sabres.

I don’t understand your post. How does the organization not have a grasp on what they have? What signs have they showed that they don’t know who they have in house?

I just don't want them to be cavalier with assets. Still reeling from the aggressiveness of Tim Murray.

Honestly, what I'd like is for our GM to be able to sell the opportunity over here with this team to a couple key free agents, who we absolutely should be able to pay, who will truly help in enabling this team to turn the corner.

And as far as trades, they should be able to make a couple of moves, without giving away the house.

Some of the trade suggestions for Chychrun are ludicrous.

Mainly I guess, I'm referring to Murray.

I sincerely hope this hasn't offended anyone.

Next game, do you go?

Dahlin - Clague
Sammy - Lyubushkin
Pilut - Fitzgerald

Probably still use Dahlin and Samuelsson in rotation but Lyubushkin will get the 3rd highest ToI while they draw down someone like Clague and probably Fitz to lower totals as they have been doing recently. It hasn't been so much a three pairing rotation as it has been Dahlin then Sammy then Dahlin then Sammy with the partners in a rotation.

I was wondering whether they would ease Lyubushkin back in. I guess we will see tomorrow.

Sample size is definitely an issue, but I agree and I think Clague has earned a chance to stick.

While I dont think Calgue's play has been better than Bryson's best games last season, there is no question that Clague is outperforming Bryson currently.

Bryson has been banged up, so it might be a health issue, but I think he was over-played and lost some confidence during the big losing stretch, and he is going to have to work through that.

On the flip side, Clague has half the NHL exp Bryson has, so he might just finally be coming into his comfort zone, and I think there is a chance he sees a steady improvement if kept in the lineup.

Neither are really core players going forward, but they have both proven that they can perform admirably at times as depth D, so I would hang on to them. While Bryson's speed will be missed, I think I would stick with Clague as a regular as the team gets healthy, only because I think he handles the physical stuff better and that will be needed in a playoff race going forward. Fitz and Pilut I would waive over both if necessary.

smt and term I don’t have a problem with.

thr problem is those final years are 33-35 which players don’t usually return on investment.

i know now snd st 33 he could be mid pair, then last 2 yrs he’s a bottom pair.
