I have a question for the toughness, physicality doesn't matter crowd. Do you think Matthew Tkachuk would be the same player and have the same effectiveness if he never hit anybody and never used his size to his advantage?
If you take away Tkachuk's toughness or his skill, he wouldn't be the same player. That is obvious to anyone.

You cannot have an effective team that is all grit and no skill just as you cannot have an effective team with all skill and no grit.

The key is to find the balance. Personally, I have felt they needed a "tough skill" guy or two for a while. The challenge is that they don't grow on trees.

People are upset. They create someone to argue against. It's just like earlier in the year when people were saying "the board" was fine with Adams not getting a vet goaltender when we have polls that were done that show the vast majority of the board wanted to add one. Need someone to say "I told you so" to.

Alternatively, people seem to have this innate need to be right on the internet/social media. So it's a combo of needing someone to blame for things not going right plus the needing to be right about the things that went wrong.

I have an uncle who, every year, spends the entire tournament ragging on the Canadian world jr. team. Doesn't matter how good they are. Why? If they lose he gets to be right and say I told you so. If they win he gets to be happy they won and celebrate.

He won't admit this of course and the one time I brought it up he flipped his lid.

What I'd do if I were Adams and Granato:

- Add a power play coach. The Sabres' record would get better almost immediately.
- Jokiharju and Olofsson to LA for Roy and Grundstrom. Kings could use some more mobility on the blue line, and they've needed some power play help. Kings are scoring a lot as a team but could use some help on the power play.
- Draft pick for Sturm. Sharks are in a rebuild so it might make sense.
- Bryson, Rosen to Rochester.

Forwards are hurt so I won't put too much thought into it.

D:

Samuelsson - Dahlin
Power - Roy
R. Johnson - Clifton
E. Johnson

I think that's a lot more balanced, and puts Clifton into a better role.

Why would the Kings do this? They are one of the best teams in the league. They aren't doing anything.

Jokiharju might be the best player in the trade, Grundstrom hasn’t been able to get much higher than the 4th line for stretches, and they are average in the power play, just like last year.

I want Matt Roy too, but he won't be available until the summer. LA doesn't seem to have plans on keeping him after the season. They will have a handful of RFAs to re-sign, and Brandt Clarke ready to move up to take Roy's spot.

How many times in recent NHL history has a floundering team been saved by an early in-season trade? I would not be surprised if the answer is never. I can’t think of any. On the other hand, how many floundering teams have saved their season by firing the coach? I can think of several without even putting any thought into it. Kevyn’s chance to save Donnie’s job was in the offseason. It’s too late now.

Thornton to the sharks comes to mind

Edit: Bure to the panthers was in mid January

Can you provide a link to this poll? I’d like to see when it was conducted snd what the questions were.

nothing says playoffs like a roster of

girgens
okposo
jost
krebs
greenway
robinson
olofsson

If you're anything like me, you truly believed the Buffalo Sabres were going to do it this time. But if you're anything like me, you truly believed that the season before this, too, and maybe even the season before that.
This season actually felt primed for success, though, with touted rookie Devon Levi bringing some hope in between the pipes, Tage Thompson's stardom breakout last season, Rasmus Dahlin finally living up to our high expectations and a seemingly well-rounded group.
At least they had mercy on us this time and showed us they aren't the team we hoped they'd be early on, and now they boast the second-worst record in the Atlantic Division at 10-14-2.
What happened? Did we place too much hope and pressure on a rookie goaltender, who deserves more time, space and grace to adjust from the NCAA to the NHL? Is the team less complete than it appeared, basically falling apart with Thompson's early-season injury? Yeah, let's go mostly with the lack of forward depth and the youth of the blueline—however promising that blue line still may be.
I'll see you at this time again next year, Buffalo faithful.

That’s a weird way to frame this.

If you take away any of the skills that make a player who they are. Then of course they’re not the same player. Whether it’s speed, shooting, toughness or in Tkachuk’s case being a rat.

And as @Sabresfansince1980 said, I don’t know of a crowd of posters who think physically/toughness doesn’t matter.

Exactly 1 Player is still playing in the NHL from our last playoff roster (Myers).

Sara Civ is probably the worst NHL commentator in the league once Ken Campbell retires
Right? Sabres have THE worst record in the Atlantic. Ottawa has less points because they've played less games than us.

I guess we won’t know if the team was saved for awhile, but Zadorov just moved. So trades can happen. Remove the saved qualifier and the list of early season moves grows.
