I wouldn't say he is shot. If he is played how he should be played, he is a great 4th line leader. If they keep playing him 15 min a game, that's a problem

Really like EF but he's been really bad recently. They make him do 7 hits a week so he spews a lot of I think's, could be's and it's possible's.

It's hard to fault him as much as Sportsnet is likely pushing it.

Probably because there’s now an injury/doctor report, that was probably released somewhat privately, that has results that would be favorable for teams to go after Kane with good news. It may be a situation, Where teams were waiting for a milestone point from Kane’s doctors and team.

primary is winning and if he is washed after his surgery after 5 games the Kane effect is gone and you add more empty seats for the future for clogging up capspace for effects rather than what this team really needs which is a hard playing d savvy forward.

maybe start with veterans who fit the actual needs of the team and who are sure to perform at a certain level

Maybe he has been driving by Kanes house real slow at night.
 
This forward corps is not deep or good enough to turn their nose up on Kane. 2 x 4.5 make it happen. Waive olofsson after and send him to the ECHL

Ya I've also noticed a lot of bunk stuff posted by him...Saying something is about to break and it doesn't happen or it takes months

Mittelstadt is getting near 60% o-zone deployments. Most of his points last year came in the 2nd half. So he's been very productive....over a 50 or so game stretch.

So he's had 50 or so very productive games in a nearly 300 game career.

He's likely a 50-60 point offensive center if given favorable deployments, that will drop if you change how he's used. I'm not saying he's not valuable or can't play defense, I'm just saying that is who he is currently based on his production, usage, and deployments.

From a 500 ft view:

When you have 3 primary offensive centers, two are locked up long term (and more productive) and a 3rd that is in need of a contract, the logical thing is to move the least productive one that needs a contract. And yes, Mittelstadt HAS been better than Cozens so far this year. But overall, Cozens is a much more productive center than him. We need a capable two way center in a top 9....Mittelstadt has not done that in his career with those types of deployments. He might be ABLE to, but he hasn't. So the logical thing to do is move out the 3rd center and bring in a new one.

Not sure that trusting a promotional video edited and published by his agent and/or business manager's team is the most fundamentally useful way to evaluate health and readiness. :D

In a vacuum this makes sense. The reality is that there aren't ten teams with two Phillip Danault type-players who are looking to move one for Casey Mittelstadt. Heck, there aren't even 10 Phillip Danault type players. I think we have seen improved defensive play from Thompson this year and that there is more that can be pulled defensively from Mitts, Cozens and Krebs as their careers progress.
 
Here's the situation at the 15-game point:

xGF Rank: 16th (9th in the east)
xGA Rank: 21st (11th in the east)
xGF/xGA Differential Rank: 17th (8th in the east)
xGF% Rank: 17th (8th in the east)

While we may be better defensively, we're still worse at it than almost every other team in the east, going by expected numbers.

Seems about exactly what this team needs.

Do they want picks? Does that mean a 2nd?

Rebuilding so a player? Krebs? Rosen?

What exactly would it take? Because adding Kane and Strum, and eventually Quinn would change the team.

Agreed that Sturm might be a perfect fit for us. But does San Jose/Grier want to move him?

Yes, they're rebuilding....but does Grier value a 2nd over Sturm playing for them? Does Sturm even want to move?

Every year when Tampa needs to fill a hole they go and get that player, as does Vegas and every other serious team. If you (Sabres) are going to sign a player of Kane’s stature, you’ve gotta fill the gapping hole at a defensive center.

Make it an offer San Jose can’t refuse but make sure it includes a Smurf.

Benson goes to the WHL
Sign Kane
Trade for Sturm
Send Victor down to Rochester.

I’d add trading for another solid bottom sixer but I’d be shocked if they even do the above.
