Uhm...weren't we told we had a starting goalie in Levi? I mean he is starting in Rochester. To be looking for a goalie now at this point, is m8nd numbing. He should be trying to make the team better everyday. But I cannot see how getting rid of your only C accomplishes that.

I just think it's another false rumor. It's so bad that I'm willing to believe KA is not contemplating it.

In case anyone needed a laugh this morning - "ace penalty killer" Erik Johnson (???) - as if he hasn't been the weak link on that system all year.

With trade deadline looming, ace penalty killer Erik Johnson not looking to move on from Sabres

Look at the Dallas PP goal - he loses his man and then panics in no man's land, neither blocking the shot nor allowing his goalie to see what should have been a routine shot from a distance without traffic in front. He's been a massive disappointment even relative to expectations. Sad that he's getting the credit for the work of guys like Greenway.

Edit. If we get anything south of a 7th rounder I'd be ecstatic. Addition by subtraction. Most emotion I have seen from him all year was the Colorado game where he was a turnstile for three goals against if I recall? I guarantee nobody else was willing to pay him that $$, he was just here for the paycheck
If we’re breaking down that play in particular, I have one question for you. Why is the right side forward below the goal line? He’s trying to make a block to recover for the fact that the PK forward is completely out of position. The guy may as well have been in Niagara county.

At four failed seasons with his lack of effort…why would he deserve a fifth offseason? How many GMs get to fail this spectacularly and keep going? This one wouldn’t have been hired by any other team...and it’s going exactly as you’d predict. He took over a team coming off a better season than the one he’s overseeing after FOUR OFFSEASONS.

Yeah he doesn’t own 13 years. He owns 4 that are more than enough to recognize he isn’t good at his job.

Still needs answers at positions they’ve needed his entire tenure. Year after year. Roster remains unfinished. What few moves he does make…they don’t help. He hasn’t identified any great move and made it to actually build this team. What is the point of an analytics department that tells you not to replace Quinn in the off-season, not to get a quality vet partner for Power, to go ahead and keep a coach lost as hell and his disaster of a PP coach can stay too. Okposo is in the first line in year four. An 18 year old with 4 goals is on line 2. That’s what the f*** Adams gets credit for.
It's your same rant, and I'll answer with the same answer I did before. It's not really 4 off-seasons to rebuild.

Off-season 1 wasn't really his. It was a lot of Krueger, and the Taylor Hall signing debacle.
Off-season 2 was a rebuild. Couldn't expect more than just a tear down.
Off-season 3 was continued rebuild. You were a huge voice in being upset that they only signed Comrie. Glad they didn't go hard after Campbell, as you advocated.
Off-season 4: you've got a legitimate gripe.

Put things into perspective.

Craig's real quote: "$6.4M is a very good contract" lol

Hoping both of these rumors are the same quality as Peters' Dahlin intel from last summer.
These guys are really struggling for topics to discuss, makes sense to create some rumors. I just wish they weren’t such awful ideas.

Peters watches maybe one out of every ten games, and neither of them seem to remember things like NTCs or a million other relevant facts when discussing trade ideas.

Dude, no one is attending the games. The fan base is generationally destroyed. That’s the perspective. You’ve been praising and covering for failing GMs on here for a decade. Yet you aren’t leaving open the possibility that you just might be wrong once again?

Whatever. Show me where I was covering for Tim Murray or Botterill.

Patience to see what happened? Sure. Freaking out at the first sign of trouble? No. If that's "covering," then guilty.

I was vocal about not liking the Kane/Bogosian trade, or the Bylsma hire, and the Nylander pick under Murray.

I was vocal about not liking losing Carrier, trading Foligno, and re-signing Skinner under Botterill.

You want to be an angry fan? Go direct your energy elsewhere.

Looking for a goaltender just means a backup for the season or two so Levi can cook. He is gauging interest in his RFA, who wouldn't. Mitts is worth more than ever before. Probably also gives him an idea what he is worth to the league to see what contract he is willing to give.
At no point in my life have I had less trust in the Buffalo Sabres general manager than right now. This guy trading the only guy on this roster that shows up, plays hard, and produces night after night would be the final straw.

Still hate these two.

Perhaps not my best example, you are right. The forwards have been leaving the D out to dry all year, especially at 5v5 with the whole "lets stack three guys on the opposite blue line while the puck is in our end" approach. Not sure if that's coaching or discipline, I used to think just the former but now I think its a bit of the latter too.

But there's plenty of examples throughout the year of EJ failing on that PK. Less lazy and more reasonable posters than I I'm sure can make a greatest hits compilation from this year. My point is, EJ did not fix this penalty kill and should not get sole credit as such as a "ace"

Failed at what, only two seasons had any expectations, the one with Hall and this current season.

Looking for a #1 goalie? When UPL has had the best season of his career and is looking the part of a #1 goalie?

I get that there's smoke around Mitts........but I don't buy the #1 goalie thing for a minute right now.
It is strange, but I have heard from multiple people who "Know some people" that the organization was really low on UPL as recently as the summer and pretty much assumed Levi and a healthy Comrie would overtake him EZ PZ

So maybe they still don't believe in him long term

He's not alone in it being better but he has been a part of why it is better. Getting the easily mesmerized Jokiharju off the PK almost entirely, moving on from filler like Bryson, Clague and especially Fitzgerald have seen better net-front play from the defensemen. Shuffling speed forwards into the PK for more pressure has also helped. But they are middling now which is an improvement from the tire fire where they were.

I think it's Cozens IIRC, but I'm a quart low and not remembering anything clearly right now.
