I guess they are really throwing in the towel huh. That timing was odd to me.

They've decided to try to maximize assets if guys aren't committed to staying. They couldn't pay Lindholm what he asked for - probably no one can even when July 1st rolls around - and Hanifin's kept them in limbo for months while they've waited to see if he wants to stay. It's shit or get off the pot time.

That’s the beauty of the perpetual “kicking the can” strategy. There will always be hope in three more years!
Imagine Adams bringing in Kuznetsov, a player with a substance abuse problem. Sure, you'd get a 1st line center. But what does that do to the bevy of kids in the locker room?

Murray did that three times over: Kane, Bogosian, and Lehner. One troublemaker who was a bad example of a pro, one lazy player who got along on physical gifts, and a player with a substance abuse problem.

Virtually everyone Adams brings in has been to set a culture example. In the long run, that'll led to a lot more winning than the short-term gratification of just bringing someone in.

Four - O’Reilly. Timmy’s wasn’t his only drunken rodeo.

Would love to hear more about that from you or whoever it was that raised that question. Can't think of a single more effective playoff style forward on this roster at the moment. Tight spaces, stick battles, board play, quick passing windows. Effort.
I’ve never seen him generally play desperate, playoff-style hockey, diving in front of pucks and rushing back to cover for other guys and stuff. At least compared to successful NHL playoff teams.

I’m mainly just playing devil’s advocate as I agree that you really need to tell a story for it to make sense to trade him. I’m certainly skeptical.

Yes, in the long run. His plan has us not making the playoffs until literally 2027.

You skip adding Kuznetzov because he isn’t a good fit, not because “every trade option out there is bad for culture.” This is a silly example for why the GM needs almost a decade to get to the playoffs.

Unless I missed something, it hasn't been a decade.

It's been a decade for the Sabres, but not for Adams. And I'm not an ardent Adams supporter. Just pointing out that he's had the reigns for 3 and a 1/2 years. Also just pointing out that a stupid move is worse than no move.

Of course that’s true. No one has ever even implied otherwise. You just randomly responded to my post as if that was what I was recommending. Either learn how to read or respond to the actual point made in the post,

Unless Adams shows he can assemble a roster and find large contributors from the outside to address problem areas, last year was probably the best case scenario. Get career years and get in that bubble area and get lucky. A good team can win multiple ways.

Adams hasn’t shown he can build a team that can win one way consistently.

In case anyone needed a laugh this morning - "ace penalty killer" Erik Johnson (???) - as if he hasn't been the weak link on that system all year.

With trade deadline looming, ace penalty killer Erik Johnson not looking to move on from Sabres

Look at the Dallas PP goal - he loses his man and then panics in no man's land, neither blocking the shot nor allowing his goalie to see what should have been a routine shot from a distance without traffic in front. He's been a massive disappointment even relative to expectations. Sad that he's getting the credit for the work of guys like Greenway.

Edit. If we get anything south of a 7th rounder I'd be ecstatic. Addition by subtraction. Most emotion I have seen from him all year was the Colorado game where he was a turnstile for three goals against if I recall? I guarantee nobody else was willing to pay him that $$, he was just here for the paycheck

Everyone randomly responds to posts. It's a message board. That's what people do. Unless you just throw ideas and thoughts out there just to read your own words.

2020-2027... about a decade. I can read and did respond to your actual post. Better to not make a move ("kick the can" as you put it) than make a dumb move that sabotages the plan which the team is executing.

Half of that roster had, um... season lift tickets to all the local slopes. Murray had a type for certain.

If true, this is really going to be a critical point of Adams career and I have a feeling its going to come back and bite him in the ass...

** And apparently the goalie is Gibson...

Looking for a #1 goalie? When UPL has had the best season of his career and is looking the part of a #1 goalie?

I get that there's smoke around Mitts........but I don't buy the #1 goalie thing for a minute right now.

I mean, most players they have traded away seem to do much better when off the Sabres. I wouldn't be surprised to see Mittelstadt become a 90 point guy on a good team.
He could turn into the next Reinhart for sure

I haven't watched enough Anaheim to know if Gibson is back to form or not.......but my knee-jerk reaction is still "I want zero part of that contract".
Same here.. I also dont feel like Gibson is that much of an upgrade from UPL..

I don’t expect Kevyn to trade for the French Connection. Rather, I seek supplemental pieces that constitute this generation’s Grier, Peca and Hecht. I also want a simple defenseman like Toni Lydman.

But like a bicycle on my 7th birthday, it appears too distant a dream.

At four failed seasons with his lack of effort…why would he deserve a fifth offseason? How many GMs get to fail this spectacularly and keep going? This one wouldn’t have been hired by any other team...and it’s going exactly as you’d predict. He took over a team coming off a better season than the one he’s overseeing after FOUR OFFSEASONS.

Yeah he doesn’t own 13 years. He owns 4 that are more than enough to recognize he isn’t good at his job.

Still needs answers at positions they’ve needed his entire tenure. Year after year. Roster remains unfinished. What few moves he does make…they don’t help. He hasn’t identified any great move and made it to actually build this team. What is the point of an analytics department that tells you not to replace Quinn in the off-season, not to get a quality vet partner for Power, to go ahead and keep a coach lost as hell and his disaster of a PP coach can stay too. Okposo is in the first line in year four. An 18 year old with 4 goals is on line 2. That’s what the f*** Adams gets credit for.
