You gotta think they're trying to get both the third line and tank going. Only thing that makes sense
Tank is more engaged, and is playing better, but you can't keep trying to "get him going" to the detriment of the rest of the group.

You can't keep "showcasing" him either.

Absolutely. He’s at a 95 point pace under Mclellan. It’s a no brainer if he wants to stay
He wants to stay. I met him at a meet and greet a couple weeks ago. Told him it's an honor to watch him play in Hockeytown. He said he absolutely loves it here and so does his family. The guy isn't moving anywhere. Not to mention he's such good friends with 93.

Trade deadline is coming up. This is the correct time to be trying to showcase him and get him going. Either he breaks out which I doubt, or you trade him for the best possible return. Which may be a 3rd with retained salary.

With Kane we should go all the time with 35+ 1-year deals to avoid the risks and going bonus-heavy.

Think he could deserve a small raise, like 5M deal and total 7.5M with bonuses.

AMERICAN STARS SHINE ON HOCKEY DAY IN AMERICA
* Patrick Kane
(2-1—3) was one of three Red Wings players to score in the opening 5:06 of the contest – the fastest three goals to start a game by a team this season – but the Ducks rallied with two tallies in the final three minutes of regulation to level the game. Kane scored again in the extra frame to record his 14th career overtime goal and tied J.T. Miller for the third most among American players in NHL history, behind Max Pacioretty (16) and Johnny Gaudreau (15).

Hope Kane is back again next season in a similar deal, curious if he continues to go after 1 year deals or may want 2 years after showing some durability for the most part. His chemistry with Debrincat and importance to how good the powerplay is overall would be very difficult to replace. Plus entertainment value alone for the fans is hard to measure... he can float but he is smart enough he makes up for it. I hope he is of the mindset that he is done changing area codes at the point in his career and that Detroit is on the upswing enough to finish his career in a competitive setting.

Yeah - how many guys is he holding back from extra ice time, or a shot at making the roster from GR?

I'd rather keep him than Tarasenko, or even Veleno and Rasmussen.

Agree on Tank and Veleno.. Tank has not fit in at all, luckily he is expiring next year and his salary is moveable for another piece that isnt working out or if someone agrees to take on his salary for something else would be even better. Veleno works his tail off but does not get much accomplished, hard to dislike him but his development has been put to a halt in Detroit. If he is ever going to take another step, it may not be in Detroit.

I have always liked Rasmussen but again, a guy that does not help himself a ton at times. He has possibly the weakest shot, and passes on the team. Something about his size and the way he skates, he cant generate any velocity on the puck. He is usefull and I think would be hard to replace like Copp... he does a lot of the things the team needs that go unnoticed. His reach, age, contract and low maintenance likely keeps him here unless he is part of an upgrade. He probably has decent value league wide because of those traits. Would love to see him flourish here long term, easy guy to like. Would love if he stopped putting himself in positions to get injured... time to beat someone up Ras.

Yeah, Ras might have cemented his spot on this team for another season stepping in and being a functional 3C. Him and Elmer do their thing with whoever is lined up next to them, and I don't mind us rolling with that. If we're just looking for a roster spot or two, we can get that just by letting Fischer and Motte walk, and dealing Veleno and/or Tank.

This team is getting to that point though where we're going to see some actual roster decisions made, guys probably dealt, and hopefully a significant piece or two added.
