The team they announced pre-camp is very similar to what I’d have sent before we get into 2nd round playoff knockouts and Dylan Holloway who could be eliminated tonight but until he is, I won’t include him.

My team would be right now:

Newhook- Cozens- Legare
Krebs- Suzuki- Perreault
Tracey- Zary- Foudy
Keppen- Rees- Bourque
Lapierre

Harley- Korczak
Vukojevic- Drysdale
Cormier- Schneider
Constantinou

Gauthier
Basran
Garand

Wow, what a terrific audience.

Geez, what is Drysdale? 16?

Drysdale, Hunt, Cormier, Bourque, Lapierre, Foudy, Perreault and Garand are all 16. It's not uncommon to have a few invited to camp while CHL playoffs are underway. Though that is a lot more than usual.

Kids that could still be on the radar but are in 2nd round of CHL playoffs.

WHL:
Kirby Dach - Saskatoon - C/RW - 2nd round vs PA, likely reserved a spot if out.
Bowen Byram - Vancouver - LD - 2nd round vs. Victoria, lefty likely reserved a spot if he's out.
Matt Robertson - Edmonton - LD - 2nd round vs. Calgary, on HC's radar probably takes another young LD out of the running.

OHL
Quinton Byfield - Sudbury - C/W - 2nd round vs. Ottawa, has a serious shot at making it if out early.
Connor McMicheal - London- C - 2nd round vs. Guelph.
Phil Tomasino - Niagara - C - 2nd round vs. Oshawa

QMJHL:
Jakob Pelletier - Moncton - LW - 2nd round vs. Halifax.
Samuel Poulin - Sherbrooke - LW - 2nd round vs. Drummondville. Typically on HC's radar.

CJHL
Dylan Holloway - Okotoks - LW - still in AJHL playoffs.

Halifax won't be sending anyone, notably Lavoie or Barron, because they are Memorial Cup hosts.

Justin Begeron - Rouyn-Noranda - LD - 2nd round vs. Victoriaville, yet another lefty.

CJHL

Bergeron is a late 00 birthday so he’s ineligible.

No Keppen, Constantinou, or Basran on the camp roster.

I know, I was just stating who I’d have invited.. Basran could have gone either way for me, depending on who you felt about Guzda or Lemieux but I thought Constantinou and Keppen had showed enough to crack the squad.

If Dach's Saskatoon Blades lose game 1 against PA 6-1. If they get eliminated in 4/5 games, what are the chances of him playing?

Do players get invited and sent as they get eliminated or is there some date by which HC will announce the players added to the team for the 2nd round among all players available as of that date ?
I assume it's the latter and that the date is unknown ? What would the date be this year, according to a typical year ?

what's Holloway's status now? still playing playoffs? never mind. just used the good ol' google machine to answer my question.

If we get a couple of series sweeps in the books, we can have a couple of significant additions before the team even departs for Europe. (Dach, Poulin, Pelletier and Byfield)

He's 17 today. I think he's deserving of an invite as an underager. depending on other significant adds pending 2nd. rd. eliminations, he probably should make it. one of the youngest player in the tournament. probably a top 10 pick next year. those are the type of underagers I like.

Not only should Drysdale make it, but he should be one of the team's top defenders IMO. Underager or not, he is the complete package. He's already better than a guy like Harley in his own end IMO. And his skating ability and overall skill set should allow him to make more of an impact than Vukojevic.

Ryan Ellis was a HUGE part of the 2008 U18's as an underager, a year that Canada actually won gold (one of only two times in the last 15 years). On that same team, Taylor Hall and Matt Duchene were among the team's leading scorers...again as underagers. For those really elite guys (of which I think Drysdale is one), that one year age gap doesn't really matter much. I expect that Drysdale will be a very big part of this team and if he is not and is used sparingly, it would be a MAJOR mistake.

Wow, high praise from you Brock. Should be a really stacked team if they utilize him correctly then.

There will be a lot of talent up front if some combination of Dach, Tomasino, McMichael, Holloway, Pelletier, etc, are added. Going to be a fun tourney to watch.

Drysdale just turned 17, played the season as a 16 year old and had an insane good season for the not so good Otters.

7 goals, 34 assists, 41 points in 61 games,0.67 ppg, fast and smooth skater, elite passer, should use his shot more
cause its good. Will go very early at the 2020 draft. - would of been super weird if he wasn't playing at the u18 wjc

Guys like Drysdale and Cormier are needed on this team because the other defencemen invited aren't offensive defencemen who can push the pace. They are useful defenders though, the right-side is set with the righties invited.

The top 9 will likely include most of the best 2001s in Canada (Cozens, Dach, Suzuki, Krebs) with the exception of Lafreniere who is 1-1 right now with Cape Breton, so still a possibility. Game 3 is in 30 minutes. Foudy, Perreault, Lapierre, and Bourque are also 1st team 2002 Canadians. The defence is strong, hopefully the big guys don't get exposed with their skating.

Head coach is from University of Quebec and I have no idea who he is. Maybe that's a good thing.

Looking like Jakob Pelletier might be joining Team Canada for the U18s as Moncton is down 3-0 to Halifax. His speed would be a welcome addition on the big ice.
