So, what's up with O'Neill???

Andreoff was very good in the pre-season. I was front row at Ducks game and he was flying and had that great play that led to Clifford's goal.

He looks way more confident than last year.

Remember he was a 2nd round pick. He has hands.

Also, I went to rookie camp two seasons ago and he was the leader of the pack.

Andreoff was a 3rd round pick. He is more of a bottom 6 grinder who can chip in occasionally under the right circumstances

And I'd agree for the most part. But obviously, the Lombardi and Co. do see something in him.

Absolutely, it's just weird. Here's a guy that has been around long enough to be waiver eligible and has done very little. The Kings have given up on a lot of other guys a lot sooner. Even DS seemed displeased that they were keeping him up all year just because of his contract last season.

I thought Mersch was going down, but with King being injured I'm a little concerned. I can easily see the bottom 6 being:

Lewis-Shore-Brown
Clifford-AA-Nolan

Which would SUCK. This bottom six will once again bring nothing offensively

Its just Sutter being a hard ass making Weal earn a spot, which he will. Disappointed Mersch did not stick with King going down (he is the perfect replacement).

They would have had to waive him today. Since he wasn't on waivers today it seems likely he has made the opening day roster.

They would have had to waive him today. Since he wasn't on waivers today it seems likely he has made the opening day roster.

To announce the roster, yes; but he needs waivers and waivers take 24 hours.

Yeah, all I read about O'Neill earlier was that the Kings were waiting on a decision...I assumed it was medical. Can't find anything else though.

Edit: maybe that "decision" was players to the IR that aren't O'Neill. Makes sense.

IR players do not count towards roster limit. So 23 plus IR. So if King and Greene both go to IR the Kings are at 23 man limit right now. They will actually have 27 players on opening day 23 man roster (Lowry and that Russian kid are both still injured and can't be re-assigned afaik so will also head to IR).

Kinda nice for those two injured guys as they will be getting NHL money so long as they are on IR. Actually how Richard Petiot made 600+K off the Kings one year by getting injured in camp. Spent the whole year on IR and made NHL salary despite not playing a game and being a career minor leaguer.

Wasn't sure how/when they were hurt. It really depends. If it was outside regular hockey activities the Kings sure can do that, but don't have to. It would be the Kings option at that point. If it was during hockey activities the Kings are obligated to pay them.

I wasn't sure how they were hurt either but with the cap and what we have avail. There won't be any free rides and playing nice. Can't afford losing any we have.

Lowry was hurt at Cornell ~15 games into the season. Back injury if I recall.

The Russian kid hurt his wrist at the Russian WJC camp I believe.

I don't think the Kings will pay them since the injuries happened outside their watch.

eh, mersch was good getting shots off, had a lot of them, and at net presence. but in the end he put up 2 points in 6 games. weal and shore both put up 4 points (2G/2A - weal in 4 games and shore in 5), so it depends on what you call ineffective. both weal and shore had good numbers in the faceoff circle too. mersch could work on his skating imo. he's great but a little more time in the AHL can only help his cause. then he'll be more ready when he gets called up.

I believe weal did his damage in the 2 games vs arizona who was fielding probably a ahl caliber team. Norther of those games were televised so I didn't see it. But the games that I saw against actual nhl lineups, Weal looked entirely ineffective.

Pretty much this... unless the bottom 6 can occasionally help out with a goal or 2, this is going to be another long season with the Kings trying to scrape into a wildcard spot. Not sure, swapping Weal for Shore and running Lewis/Weal/Brown makes the line any better offensively. Can Weal get Lewis and/or Brown to score?

LKG was definitely underwhelming at Frozen Fury. They were together for one of the games against the Ducks, iirc, and didn't look any better.

But it's preseason, Lucic is new, et cetera, et cetera. One more day until the puck drops!

the second game was televised or else i caught it on streaming. weal got the OT goal. he only got limited ice time after those 2 games both vs the ducks. didnt get to play in the AVs games and most would agree the AVs were pretty awful in vegas.
