Lewis will probably shift over to wing, but I hate to see it after his performance with Clifford and Nolan. They were tenacious and complemented each other.

I'd rather see Weal on the wing with Shore and Brown. It's a home game and they can control the matchups. Thing is, Lewis can be trusted to play anywhere and be competent, so moving him to wing is the safer play.

I'd rather see Lewis on the wing regardless - I think he's way more effective there, he's just not great at center. Poor on the draw and looks out of place. Lewis on the wing I absolutely love in comparison.

^ yep PJ , o'neill got 3 preseason games; weal got 4.

shore, andreoff got 5 each and mersch played all 6. go figure.

So Hammond reported the Bottom 6 is

Lewis-Shore-Brown
Clifford-Andreoff-Weal-Nolan

Sutter really complains about scoring from the bottom 6 but does this. Shore is a face off monster and responsible defensively but Weal is dynamic offensively, beats me why Shore is over Weal.

Weal will be riding the pine all year long like Andreoff did last year

i know - esp after sutters "box" talk. :amazed: shore had 7 pts in 34 games last year, was drafter a yr after weal, and doesnt hv waivers issue. so let someone else try 3rd line and see if production goes up... why not? sutter has favorites. he's like a bad teacher that way.

I thought the waivers were interesting. I didn't think we would give up on Berube or LoVerde but saw the writing on the wall for McBain. I doubt anyone gets claimed so it is more of a push than anything else but still interesting.

Where did you think Berube or LoVerde were going to fit on the roster? There was no room for them, they had to go to waivers.

Well, Shore does have more points in the NHL than Weal does. Averaged more ppg than Weal did in the AHL regular season, and almost as much as Weal in the playoffs.

No reason to get too hung up on line combo's. They're as likely to change as they are to stay the same. Especially with Sutter, who changes lines all the time, except when he's stubborn and never does.

If King stuck around Kings would have been looking at this...

King-Shore-Brown
Clifford-Lewis-Nolan/Andreoff/Weal

That would have made 2 young guys healthy scratches and made it so the Kings could only carry 1 extra D.

 true... but obviously weal's never been given a chance. just saying why not try him there and see? likely as you say, there will be some rotating. can see DS starting andreoff on opening night not weal.

this is was the insider has listed as line rushes from today's practice:

Forward lines at today’s practice, via color coding:
White: Lucic-Kopitar-Gaborik
Red: Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
Yellow: Brown-Shore-Lewis
Purple: Clifford-Andreoff-Nolan-Weal

As expected, #LAKings have assigned LW prospect @mikemersch25 to #AHL @ontarioreign.

Sigh. I really don't see how AA earned a spot but it is what it is. Weal should be in over shore on the 3rd line with shore on the 4th.

Andreoff was very good in the pre-season. I was front row at Ducks game and he was flying and had that great play that led to Clifford's goal.

He looks way more confident than last year.

Remember he was a 2nd round pick. He has hands.

Also, I went to rookie camp two seasons ago and he was the leader of the pack.

As much as I like Weal, I am glad DS is giving Shore a chance to be full time in the lineup. While many on this board are disappointed in his offensive production, remember that Pearson wasn't very productive during his first call up either. That said, I would rather see Weal in than AA. AA has not shown anything special during the times that he has played; Weal, on the other hand, appears a lot more dynamic.

I'm more upset about mersch, third line winger seems like a good spot for him to start off at. Weal looked entirely ineffective in the preseason games I saw. Mersch was able to play his game at the nhl level

I didn't see it but that's awesome, and so King of him.

and  at the goalie boot for forward, oh god I can't imagine. They do make skate guards now. I actually have a set for ice. They look goofy as **** but they've saved my instep about a million times since people like plugging me instead of shooting around me. Then again, I play D, probably wouldn't wear them at forward, but they don't get in the way at all, plus the Pronger ones are carbon IIRC so they're even lighter than my plastic bricks...

They are worth their weight in gold and I do not understand why anyone would not wear them. Considering that every player in the NHL is expected to block shots and all of them can blast the puck, there is just no excuse to miss game time with a broken foot.

No doubt, but the bottom line is this is only his 2nd year prob and he doesn't have to clear waivers. He also plays LW, which is a deep spot now for LA with Lucic, Pearson, King, Clifford and even Andreoff or Lewis.

Weal and Andreoff are waiver eligible.

Shore has NHL experience and plays like a typical 3rd line center should, which is a position the Kings are weak in after losing MR and Stoll.

stoked that Forbort finally made the big club. now the work gets even harder. stoked for the home town kid to make the team

now if Mersch makes the team that will really be sweet, that will be two guys with connections to the programs i've been affiliated with

eh, mersch was good getting shots off, had a lot of them, and at net presence. but in the end he put up 2 points in 6 games. weal and shore both put up 4 points (2G/2A - weal in 4 games and shore in 5), so it depends on what you call ineffective. both weal and shore had good numbers in the faceoff circle too. mersch could work on his skating imo. he's great but a little more time in the AHL can only help his cause. then he'll be more ready when he gets called up.

Why are some people still confused that AA made the cut and Mersch will be back in Ontario??? It's not JUST about who had the better camp, but asset management plays a BIG part in it as well.

Because AA hasn't done anything to indicate he should be kept for a second straight year just because somebody might claim his infinite skills on waivers.

I thought Mersch was going down, but with King being injured I'm a little concerned. I can easily see the bottom 6 being:

Lewis-Shore-Brown
Clifford-AA-Nolan

Which would SUCK. This bottom six will once again bring nothing offensively

that's basically what the line rushes were today so you're probably right. sigh.
