"or TWO" gets me, haha. But Friedman is second only to Bobby Mac for me so that's encouraging because it suggests DL is still looking to the old net-out philosophy (which also shows how hard it is to assemble a top defensive core like in 2012).

They're probably looking at some long term answers for when they lose a couple of more bodies from the blueline.

Ehrhoff and McBain are fillers, and right now they're making up the bottom pairing.

It's also forced McNabb and Martinez into top 4 roles, which is something we have yet to witness for a full season.

If Lombardi adds a defenseman, I figure it won't be until December-January when there's a better idea of where this team stands and what their exact needs are.

The Kings have a lot of D right now. They could use some second pairing or better guys. The Two may come into play if say a D is traded for and the Kings sent a defender like McBain back the other way.

Have to think Lombardi is looking for a veteran presence to anchor that second pair.

If those rumors of Toronto moving Dion (with retention) for Richards and Weal were true than I wonder how much Toronto would retain on Dion without Richards cap coming back? I don't see Toronto doing it now that they are eating some of kessel's deal and since babcock is a Dion man.

I want to see more of Forbort. Too bad the kid got sick. I don't think it's long before the McBain Ehrhoff pair blows up. Carolina and Edmonton not too deep at F, and SJ didn't have Couture. Also, McBain is redundant. DS won't play him on PP minutes because he has Ehrhoff. I'd have think he'd start playing Forbort on PK once settled in. This takes a little pressure off Muzzin, Martinez. I think he still goes with McNabb and DD on PK. Some of it is all situational. Like when D have just skated 4 out of the last 5 minutes, and now we have to PK. At some point, DS is going to have to make some decisions on who is primarily going to be used as PK and who is primarily going to be used on PP. It doesn't help to have guys in the lineup that you don't think can play either, or that are redundant.

I don't know if you have watched Toronto play this year, but in the 5 games I've watched, Dion has been pretty bad. (Bad gap, pinches, lost board battles)

Even if Toronto retained 50%, I wouldnt want him (considering the cap the next few years).

We basically need to play our kids on D. I don't see other viable options on defense that would be a big upgrade. (We don't have a 1st, expendable top prospects, or cap space).

Dion at $3.5M would be an absolute steal. He would be playing as our #3.
Let's pretend Dion and A-mart have the exact same contract who do you chose? I chose Dion.

Not saying Dion is the answer but isn't he on the first pair in Toronto? He would be a second pairing guy here. Thats a big load off his shoulders if he doesn't have to be the go to guy on the back end.

Im not a fan of Erhoff, would rather see a McBain Forbort 3rd pair.

That's not the point. But from what I've seen, Alec has surprised me thus far. And what I've seen of Dion, I wouldnt want him for the next 5 years.

If we get get him ,chances are we would have to move martinez. Which means our defense wouldnt be upgraded which is the point.

I would gladly move A-mart and his $4M for the same length of time for Dion at a reduced cap hit. I doubt toronto would

Amart is a good #4
Dion CAN be a good #2/#3 (capitalized since he has not shown that lately (2/3 yrs), can he recapture it? who knows

Dion CAN be a good #1..can he recapture it?
Him at a #3 would be a great fit, at worst he would be an extremely good #4. I think Dion's floor is just below A-Mart's ceiling.

It just shows how much of a wrench the Voynov put into the whole system really. The others that left it was expected due to the cap and success. But that one came out of left field and really threw things into chaos.

I would welcome Mitchell back if Florida starts selling. he is a UFA next year

I am probably more McBain than Ehrhoff myself. I just think having both can be redundant.

I would stick with Martinez than bring Dion in at that price mentioned even.

And I think this is what I keep coming back to, as well--what's REALLY available out there that's enough of a certain upgrade on what we already have that's actually worth giving up assets for? A marginal improvement won't really do it, especially one we'll lose picks and prospects for. No, I think DL is looking bigger, like a Shattenkirk or one of Nashville's or Winnipeg's extras.

Have to wonder if he would wave to come here. I know they gave him a NTC. But I don't see them moving him. He has been so good for Ekblad. And he is currently their captain.

I agree, but would like him as he already knows the system and would be able to fit in no problem.

someone explain why a team with the 5th lowest goals against and the 27th best offense is going after more defense Nosense we need a better 3 c to get some more ofference sorry shore not cutting it to me .

I don't know what the hell you just said, but I kind of agree with you about Shore. Who cares right now though, as long as we're winning. In the playoffs, having a better 3C would make a difference.
