I am 100% over Nolan as a king, by the way. I've given him every chance, see untapped offensive potential, and LOVE his game when he's on, he's a bull on the puck like Kopitar, but he just makes too many boneheaded decisions that lead to turnovers and penalties and that whole line pays for it imo. Even Andreoff and CLifford would look immensely better if you put just about anyone else in Nolan's spot.

Once King gets up to speed I could totally see a King/Kopitar/Gaborik line.

I don't think so. Pearson seems to be working fine up there, has better hands and a better shot especially within 4 feet around the net. That's Kings' kill zone, as in kills any chance to put it in around there.

Yes, but you got to switch your brain to Sutter mode. I like Pearson, just not buying that Sutter will continue to run Pearson/Kopitar/Gaborik when he has a 230 lb option that might be able to handle the defense on tough matchups better. Besides Pearson/Kopitar/Gaborik is way too much skill on one line for Sutter.

I think Nolan sits once King comes back. And I agree I've just about had it with Nolan. He's easily been the worst forward this year and provides nothing to the team.

totally agree however my 4th line is clifford lewis and nolan

I know the 4th line would be Clifford-Lewis-Nolan but I'd rather see Weal in for Nolan.

****! I've had some NYR fans agree to trade D. Moore and Etem for Ehrhoff and Andreoff. That would fix the bottom 6 easy.

or you can finally get some games for weal in at 3 c

Pearson kopitar gaborik
lucic carter toffoli
mersch weal brown
clifford lewis nolan

Now i think weal and mersch played together in the ahl but im not positive Some chemistry may help both

The best AHL line last year was Mersch-Weal-O'Neill

Everyone has had it with Nolan. He is only here because...
**** I got nothing.
How much longer till King? I'm ready even if I am not his biggest fan (not against him either... pretty meh, maybe on the positive side of meh.)

Oh and Sutter going ahead and giving minutes to Weal after Mersch is called up because it presents the opportunity to have 2 AHLers on the same line? Not gonna happen (even if I want it)

11 goals in 17 games when is Mersch finally getting the call up ?

after the trade deadline or right before the playoffs.
LA is winning games right now and he is playing more minutes in the AHL then he would be in the NHL. I am ok with him seasoning.
I am very happy with everything I have read about Mersch, but AHL success does not guarantee NHL success (I usually use Lababera as an example).
I hope Mersch comes up for a handful of games this year so he knows the speed difference between the NHL and AHL so that he knows what to work on in the off season, and then have him here full time next year.

Edit: Kozun is also and example of a good AHL player that could not bring it in the NHL...however his size was the biggest thing IMO, and Mersh's game I believe will better translate to the NHL.

I am just not sold on weal being in for limited 4th line mins #wasting talent. I wouldn't make that trade Ehrhoff has helped our pp by being able to hit the net. As for andy say what u want but hes handled the physical needs when they arose. Id much rather see him fighting then clifford and nolan.

I knew i was remembering right I think the weal mersch chemistry could help in the nhl as our 3rd line.

Well i seem recall seeing a line of Shore andreoff and Brown for a game or two. i see no difference to that and weal mersch and brown The one thing i can say is i never say never to any line combo from him.

Im not talking a permanent promotion i would be happy for a cup of coffee couple of games like what they did with slava. I would rather see rookie yips earlier in the season from jitters by getting him a couple of games early in the season helps gets rid of jitters late that will look more costly if they occur. Imo he showed in the preseason he has the talent to stay here just we didn't have the roster spot for him. Sending shore down would help shore regain a offensive touch and give him more confidence going forward. Mersch would get a few games to see what he needs to work on going forward. Its a win win to me.

Nolan seems to be getting worse rather than better. He never was a fancy stat darling but I think most of us liked what we saw in his first couple of years as a King, being a huge physical presence that had some pretty good puck handling skills and moved well for a big guy. Now he seems to be more of a rat, not really being physical but instead starting stuff after the whistle while his on ice play is uneventful if not detrimental.

As for Mersch, I think the Kings are careful not to call him up too soon and are happy to just let him solidify his mindset as a scorer and practice his overall game just to be completely sure. Maybe Shore was called up too soon and that's why he's struggling to score? What if Clifford had some years at the AHL level? Better to let him spend some more time, the team is doing well anyway.

I think there is a reason Nolan is signed for the exact amount you are allowed to bury a player in the minors

Nolan is what he is. A relatively cheap, low maintenance, 13th/14th forward. He's playing every game because King is out. They're 11-4-1 outside of the Pacific division. 13-4-1 in non-home games against the Pacific. Nolan isn't hurting the team that much. Not helping, but not hurting.

The team realistically couldn't be doing better at the moment, other than whatever happened in the first 3 games of the season. Take that out, and they're 15-5-1, with 58GF, and 39GA. They won't keep getting 31 points in 21 games, but when you do look at the overall picture, despite the in-the-moment-emotional complaints that we all do, they're doing alright.

Not hurting the team is basically what I look for in a 4th liner.

The frustrating thing with Nolan is that toward the end of last season once he and Clifford finally got away from playing with Richards and were put on a line with a center they could trust defensively in Shore, they finally started to produce some offense.

Now Nolan is back to square 1 again, even with Shore and Andreoff playing fine.

I know it is way too early for this but Yandle and hamhuis will both be UFA's this offseason. It would take a miracle for LA to have the cap space to get one of them, but both have been linked to DL in the past.
I wonder what kind of deals either would want.
If I had my choice I would go with cry baby Yandle.

I would go with neither. Both are overpaid. Both are liabilities, but Hamhuis is softer than Schultz and has fallen off hard. Yandle has offensive instincts and maybe would be better in this system, but i feel like one could do better, cheaper. And neither solves our real problem of a guy to munch minutes as a #3 in all situations (Hamhuis could do it, but not well imo).

I really do like Nolan, but yeah - he's maddeningly inconsistent with his play, and too prone to turnovers.

If he could just clean that up and be a bit more consistent, the 4th line would be in even better shape considering he's basically dead weight there right now.

It's just so frustrating to watch because you can tell the potential is there, it's just only present in short bursts of brilliance followed by long stretches of "what in the **** are you doing"

The only issue with that is we have been saying it for how many years now? Completely agree with you, but it's just the same year after year it seems.

Yeah, just where will King fit in, and what's his timetable to return, Jan?

He was walking without the soft cast end of last week but isn't ready for skating yet. (from Rich Hammond over the weekend) He said that due to the length of time and the injury, he might need a conditioning stint in the AHL
But I doubt since he's not even skating, if he'll return this month. So your timetable for Jan would be a good forecast
