Starting to get short on choices at defence now.

Enström, Edler, Murray, Lidström all declines.

Oduya, Hjalmarsson are possible and next in line to give their answer.

Hedman
Ericsson
Ekholm
Kronwall

Those are probably locks.

Karlsson or Strålman will be avaliable and Fernholm, Frögren, Karlsson and Brodin will fight for the "leftover"-spots.

Totally expected from Murray.

Favorite quote further proving the point I made earlier:
- Läkarna i Sharks har gett rådet att jag kanske borde vila, men de förstår min situation och vilja att vara med i VM och skulle aldrig tvinga mig att avstå. Beslutet är mitt, säger Dougie.

Full respect for Murray's decision!

He would have played if he was healthy. 100%!

If you actually knew who I am you would know that I have seen a lot of the games that Canucks has played this season. I work as an NHL writer and it would be pretty strange if I had that job without seeing a lot of the teams.

I know that they had a long season last year but I just can't understand why they would stop a healthy player from playing for another two weeks. I can assure you that Detroit won't go out earlier than expected next season only because their players are playing a couple of games in the WC.

And they are not consistent either. They let Jannik Hansen play for Denmark and that is another reason why I can't understand why they would stop Henrik. I would love to hear what type of injury Henrik has and if he indeed doesn't have one, I can't blame anyone, including myself, for being a bit pissed off that he didn't answer the call as the most of our other stars.

Hansen is a run of the mill bottom 6 guy, Henrik is the top scorer, etc, etc. That is one good reason I can think of.

Well around here it is all about "Embrace the Hate", but it is all good and expected. I for sure would like to see the players I see the most play in the WC, when we talk about being pissed. But things are as they are and the organisation's choice is what the players adhere to, nothing special about that. This play-off was a disaster for Vancouver, it is understandable that it is kind of tight around there now.

@jfc64 - You can scratch J.Ericsson. He's confirmed out with injury.

He's also a confirmed garbage player, especially on the bigger ice surface.

Hedman, Karlsson (Rangers will unfortunately win), Kronwall, Ekholm, Oduya & Hjalmarsson.

Some tougnhness and skill there.

the man has a young family and they deserve time with him. he has played more hockey over the last couple years then anyone in the NHL. whether or not he is hurt i don't know. It doesn't matter though. The World Championships isn't a job. it is a highly competitive tournament for fun. there is no responsibility to go and to question someone's character over is petty.

Canucks fan/Senators fan here. Have the Sedins officially declined to play in the WC's for Sweden? Or have they just not answered yet. I was kind of hoping our Swedish players, especially the Sedins, could add a WC gold to their resume.

EDIT: Nevermind, just went back and flipped through the thread and found out for myself. Disappointing to say the least...

Jimmie won't come here as long as Jonathan is here. Henrik won't come because of Joel. As long as Staffan is here Niklas will hide in his house giving orders. And finally the Sedins, one won't go if the other isn't here. Brotherhood is emotional ;)

Vancouver GM even stopped Edler... Word has he even tries to stop Näslund as GM for MoDo. And Tomas Gradins latest marriage? - Yep, stopped by the same man. Stop Stop Stop... He could not stop Richards, Kopitar, Doughty and Quick, though.

So which team to cheer on now, from the WC point of view?

I go for Ottawa to win as I hold the NYR players as at least moderately (rather positive that is) likely to go to the WC.

G Henrik Lundqvist - NY Rangers
D Anton Strålman - NY Rangers
F Carl Hagelin - NY Rangers

Ottawa would be nice too, but I doubt that Alfredsson can/will go
D Erik Karlsson - Ottawa
F Daniel Alfredsson - Ottawa
F Jacob Silfverberg - Ottawa

Hagelin and Silfverberg are both likely to go and it does not matter much which one we might get.

Karlsson and Strålman are both hot. Of course Karlsson have had a really good season but Strålman is no push-over either.

Lundquist is a tournament decider himself, the sheer possibility to get him on the team makes me cheer for Ottawa.

When it comes to Florida I see only Larsson vs Samuelsson in the scales. We are rather stacked on the defence so I rather take Samuelsson on the 2nd line and pushing Silfverberg/Hagelin (none of them can play C?) down to the third and giving us nice depth. He has also played well recently and is a veteran presence on a most likely rather young team. But sure, Larsson would be so nice too.

We do not got the insane depth which Canada got but with some luck we will field a strong team with only the fourth line being a bit shady.
