Just throwing this out there.
Kane + 8th Overall
Tanev + 2nd Pick(Canuks) and/or Brock Boeser
Yes, because of his age at his next deal. But Brodin's 4 years is acceptable?
That is better than Gorges-Risto....
If Botts could get there and keep 8OV and Reinhart.

A 1st+ for Tanev?
I'd pass.
Wouldn't we have to expose either Brodin or Tanev in that case?

You don't trade 2 of kane/nylander/reinhart/8OA for Tanev or brodin.

I hope you realize those 4 entities have very different value
Reinhart>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Nylander/8OA>>>Kane
Welpppp...
I'm curious after this post...what's your offseason plan? I don't mean that with any malice so please don't take it take way. Given our available assets...what do you do?
Robin Lehner was Tim Murray’s guy. It appears the goaltender will be Jason Botterill’s guy, too.
“I have no problem starting next season with him in goal,†the Sabres’ general manager told Sportsnet in an article published Tuesday. “There are more pressing needs. I liked what I saw from him when he won the Calder Cup.â€
A little speculation on a podcast and all of a sudden Lehner isn't going to be the #1 goalie?

The plan should be to see what is out there for somewhat valuable, but disposable assets (Kane). Get a Dman without subtracting from core/high value assets. If the move isn't available, go in to the season with the team we have (maybe some minor tweaks - like Franson 2.0, or Gionta 2.0). The point being... see what we have under a competent Head Coach and an appropriate system with good player usage.
Then evaluate what your needs are and what you're willing to part with.

Brodin was absolutely terrible in the post season.
Buffalo fans have grown to overrate him significantly. Between his age/contract and potential availability due to expansion... it make sense, i get it but.... Reinhart for Brodin is insanely poor asset management.

There's no scenario that sees us getting tanev and brodin and keeping 8ov and Reinhart...that's kinda the point here...you give to get. At least in getting brodin and losing reinhart we get tuch back too...allows us a myriad of trade possibilities with our wing depth...
I don't see Tuch as doing much with the Sabres having Bailey, Baptiste, Fasching, and Nylander in Rochester last year and not that far away from the NHL.
I'd rather go other routes to upgrade on D than deal Reinhart, especially if the D coming back is a guy like Brodin.
At least Murray set us up right for the expansion draft. We are still in perfect position to loose one of the Ennis, Molson or Gorges contracts, even if we have to add a 2nd to get it done.
That (loosing one of those 3 contracts) in itself would be a 33% positive offseason.
Stay the course, no moves until after that draft, after that wheel n deal but make sure one of those contracts are gone. I keep thinking Ennis because of his age, past production, contract and potential .
Bogosian has value if put up for trade, so why do I keep reading about him being left exposed? ???
As far as Kane, you can keep posting sign him but get it in your heads, he doesn't want to be in Buffalo. He's not signing. He's either going to UFA, or you trade him to a destination he wants, or wait til after July 1st to let him talk extension with potential new team.
My dream offseason .....
Ennis & MN 2nd to Vegas....that's a second for future considerations, which leads to.....
Kane to Vegas for a LD.
That should free up about 5-6 milion in cap space.
Draft top defense at 8 and concentrate on defense this draft, maybe package our second to get in 20 range for second first round defense pick.
Flip Foligno for tween 4/5th D man around same age.
Sign a couple journeyman forwards/defense to round out team.
Hire coach who goes into season with this spine:
Girgensons - Eichel - signed
Carrier - ROR - OK
xxx - Reinhart - xxx
xxx - Larsson - xxx
Stay the course until after the expansion draft, then flip Kane for defense.
My thinking was Kane is not close to getting Tanev by himself. But I think using the 8th overall pick by itself, in a Tanev for is something I don't want to use unless I'm addressing other needs for the team and/or getting a decent pick in return. If we're trading for Vancouver's 2nd round pick you're looking at pretty much a late 1st (33rd overall), which if you want to break down the trade, it could be:
Kane for 2nd Round Pick
Or
Kane for Brock Boeser
Or
Kane for Brock Boeser + 2nd Round pick(if Vancouver loves Kane)
and then:
Tanev for 8th overall
I'm open to adding on our end using lesser draft picks or prospects to balance out the value
