Something like Holmstrom + Wahlstrom for Garland (50% retained)
I feel like that would be an overpayment, and I don't see the Isles cutting ties with Holmstrom. Probably no deal to be made, unless there's a separate deal somehow to create cap space. Or if Clutter was part of the deal (and VAN retained less), but that's unlikely too. And, I think VAN's big need is a RHD anyway.

I think maybe they need a center too. Just posted this on the main board - curious to hear your thoughts.

Ottawa Trades: Shane Pinto
Ottawa Receives: Isles 2024 2nd, Vancouver 2024 Second, Ruslan Ishkhakov

Vancouver Trades: 2024 Second, Connor Garland
Vancouver Receives: JG Pageau, Oliver Wahlstrom

NYI Trades: JG Pageau, Oliver Wahlstrom, NYI 2024 Second
NYI Receives: Shane Pinto, Conor Garland
***NYI sends Simon Holmstrom to AHL, signs Shane Pinto 2x2***

Assuming this happens, Holmstrom moves to 3rd line and Fasching sits. It's 2 in and 2 out at the NHL level, no one has to go down.

Looks like Sens and Nucks fans aren't responding well. I sure like the creativity though

From the Isles perspective, we jettison an aging overpaid #3C, 2 underwhelming former first round picks who despite several years post-draft haven’t shown enough to warrant regular NHL ice time and a midget former second round pick who is in his D+5 draft year.

That’s not particularly attractive to a trading partner.

It seems like the Isles come out ahead on that (not that I've seen Pinto or Garland play a ton), and VAN's cap hit increases (they're trying to lower it). I also get the feeling the Isles like Holmstrom with the big club.

Scotty is probably out until November, and I doubt that the isles will trade for Garland. Feels like a mismatch given the style of play Garland does, and what the islanders currently deploy as a lineup. Would be a cool pickup but there are still more important needs (like defense)

Mayfield out will at the very least allow them to evaluate the bottom of the depth chart on the defensive side. Garland (aside from his cap hit) doesn't make a whole lot of sense (at least for the 'Borat' line) because he's not going to be the forward high of the three when they are in the zone. He likes to get in the thick of it and grind below the hash marks and attack the net.

Mayfield's issue sounds like a contusion that the team is being cautious about, but I am not the GM of the New York Islanders (even though I should be), so what do I know.

This team needs to seriously go after Konecny before they miss thier chance.

Thank you!

I've mentioned it before, but if we want a player who is itchin' to bag you 35+ goals on a top line with Horvat and Barzal, then this is the guy.

Just, Philly would surely be in no rush to make an in-division trade.

PS) Konecny can be a nasty piece of work out there...

Konecny is a Clutterbuck who can pot 30. I despise him on the Flyers, would adore him on the Isles.

Read today that Parise has started skating again and that Barzal at a golf outing told Parise that he needs to get back in there.

Have a feeling that Fasching is just keeping Zach's spot warm for a month or two.

I'd rather have Parise or Zucker instead of Garland. My 2 cents. Would also like to see a defenseman added.
Agreed. Sounds like Parise may be coming back. This team could use his speed, PK, and he did score 21 goals. Heck, maybe he slides in with #13 and #14. I would prefer if Lou has some flexibility with cap and roster as the year progresses just in case an impact player becomes available. How many more bodies can we take on and roster spots? It seems we are top heavy with bottom 9 forwards.

A couple of teams experts have picked to make the playoffs have stumbled and the TDL landscape can change. It would be nice if Lou has the flexibility to pounce. I am not advocating dumpster diving with waiver pickups, but Vrana and Tolvanen did become available last year. We need quality not quantity and obviously that is difficult to obtain as skilled wingers or d man are a valuable commodity.

Lastly, I totally agree about Garland. I did advocate for him in the past on this forum. Right now he just looks like a right handed version of Beau. Inconsistent, overpaid, and sometimes struggle with positioning without the puck. Plus, I believe this team is top heavy with right handed shooters. Just my 2 cents as well.

Big test tonight.

I like this. Holmstrom has been fine but Parise still has the motor and has much more of a scoring touch than the young gun. At this point Parise would be a faster Lee on the top line (which is where we all wish Lee could play at his cap hit, right?)

For example, I think Parise scores that baseball swing off the Barzal saucer pass the other night. Holmstrom had a good whack at it, but Parise is just that much better.

Players like Konecny would fundamentally alter the team's build and style. I'm not saying he's not great, but this team is built to win on 5v5 play, and NYI would only be able to transition to a team that included him by dealing one of their top-4 D.

The guy on the Flyers who could eventually fit in under NYI's cap who I'd love to acquire is Laughton. He's also got fire, and at that number 3Million AAV # his versatility would be a huge help.

Can't agree with this. Parise was just as streaky as Beau last year and in the last 15 games, including the 6 Carolina games (where he went 0G/0A), he had 1G and 2A total.
He wore down over the season and is not the right fit with Bo/Mat.
If he is coming back, he will have to play 3rd line RW for Fasching but needs the same game management that Clutter needs now.
Holmstrom is playing his role well and is freeing up Bo and Mat to play deeper and more aggressively. If Zach can make the 3rd line more effective, that's fine. But he is not 1st line material anymore.

Is Konecny actually available or is this just speculation because they're supposed to be bad?

Last 15 games of the regular season he was 5g 3a 8p +3 with a SHG. 15:09 ATOI

I don't hold the Carolina series against him specifically because nobody produced on offense.

But I see your point. And I would agree it's too early to give up on the kid's first line duties at this time.

At $5,500,000/year who do you send to make that work?

Phily already has 2 1sts and 2 2nds in 2024 too. He's only 26, why would Phily move on?

I don't think it could work until the deadline but I'm not sure why anyone is even talking about him. Are there rumblings he's on the move? I haven't seen that anywhere yet.

Parise would be a very flexible guy to add back in. He'd probably be cheap. He could play a game or three, and then sit a bit. He can play on any of the 4 lines.
