How would Tatar fit?

I mean, both from a bodies and financial standpoint.
Hard to say on the financial standpoint with no idea what he's willing to sign for. If it's around a 2m AAV, send down Kuhlman and find an excuse to put Clutterbuck on LTIR until the playoffs. I assume with Clutterbuck's injuries over the past several years, combined with his age and style of play, he has to have some issue that could be used as a valid enough reason to do so. And Clutterbuck being rested for the playoffs doesn't sound so bad.

Lineup then might look something like:

Lee-Horvat-Barzal
Engvall-Nelson-Palmieri
Tatar-Pageau-Wahlstrom
Martin-Cizikas-Fasching
scratches: Gauthier, Johnston

Using LTIR isn't ideal though, since it means we wouldn't accrue cap space and that would mean we'd have to send out equal caphit if we were to make any kind of in season trade. So, another option to open up the cap space would be run a 21 man roster, sending down Kuhlman, Johnston and Gauthier (or maybe Fasching if Gauthier impresses in camp). That would leave us with about 2.1m in cap space to add him, and hopefully have a little bit of space left over. That does mean we won't have any healthy scratch forwards though, which is definitely not ideal either, but would be doable, though probably a worse option than Clutter going on LTIR.

If he will sign for less than 1.4 mil, just send down Johnston and Kuhlman. And if it will take more than 2mil to get it done, then I can't see us signing him without a trade happening first, or at least, one already in place.

Financially it would be tough as I'd expect Tatar's price to be around $1.5M and would likely take one or two waived players or one LTIR from the roster.

His fit in our lineup would be as a bottom 6 forward. PP2, not called on for PKing. Likely on a line with Pageau. If he were to get 15 minutes a game it would likely come at the expense of Hudson Fasching and Ross Johnston. The fact is Tatar would make a good replacement for Zach Parise.

Lol, I guess that settles that discussion. I can see that being a good fit for him. They don't need help on the PP, but could use a bit more offense from their middle 6. Capfriendly shows it as a 1year deal at 1.5m, which seems like a good deal for the Avs.

Kind of makes me wonder though, with it coming right after the Parise announcement, if he was the backup in the event that Parise wasn't coming back. Then Parise and Lou came to a handshake deal for him to come back midseason, leading Lou to make the announcement and tell Tatar he wasn't needed, so Tatar signed his backup deal. But oh well, I imagine we will never find out if that was the case.

I half-jokingly posted a while back about Lou telling Parise to spend the holidays with his family and then come back to the team sometime in Jan/Feb. But having read what Lou said yesterday, I officially withdraw the half-joke.

Our best hope is one of Gauthier, Wahlstrom, or Dufour have a year for themselves that we don’t miss Parise.

The top scorers are streaky. Those goals are needed in one goal games. We can’t have players go 18 games without a goal when a teammate is also in a 9 game freeze.

If they're streaky, maybe one guy goes 18 games without a goal and another guy gets 12 in 18 and it's all good. Always look on the bright side of life.

any chance the smurf Ishakov turns heads in camp and gets a look opening night? Kid certainly has the skills

We should always hope that a prospect jumps out of the shadows and forces himself onto the scene.

I watched Maccelli have a wonderful season for Arizona last year and well, he's just a wee bit bigger than Iskhakov, a trickster also not known for blazing speed. That's a guy who should be giving Iskhakov confidence to just keep doing what he's doing.

Still, Lou and Chris did not go about business this offseason as if they expected Iskhakov to be making the jump this year. Lou spoke highly of him in the comments he gave Rosner with respect to the organization's top prospects, saying he'll be an NHLer.

I don't think there's any chance that he starts on the roster. He'd have to tear it up and have someone like Holmstrom/Wahlstrom completely shit the bed or get hurt in order to have a shot out of the gate.

Isn't it funny how so many talked about wanting to emulate the Wings from their Cup years and 'over-marinate' our prospects and now that we are doing it (even if not on purpose), their patience runs out when they are confronted with it?
Of course, it never occurs to them that over-ripening was just the issue of Detroit's core being good enough that none of those AHL-ers could dislodge a starter.
It would be great to see someone force their way into the lineup . . . I just can't think of when it last happened with us. Maybe Beau making the jump quickly? Dobson was not a surprise.

George isn't making this roster. He's not going from juniors to playing defense in the NHL at 19 years old. That's not Lou's way.
If anyone watched him in juniors, he is still a project. To me he didn't take a huge leap forward from his draft year so time is going to be needed before George see's the NHL
