LOL we cannot offer anything close to what NJD can? there would be zero point in using NYI for that purpose. The Devils can blow away any offer we can make in their sleep
Not true. Just because you can afford to offer the most doesn’t mean you want to off the bat. This is still business.

Maybe this time Gaudreau is using the Devils to drive up the price to come to the Islanders? One can hope.

How many calls do you think Lou got for Varlamov, and based on what you have seen with the market- what do you think was the highest offer???

Why do the Flyers need to clear cap space before signing Gaudreau, but the Isles do not? Why is moving JVR the precursor for a JG to Philly signing, but no requirement that Lou move Bailey/Varly before signing him?

Simple answer, because even though I believe you can still go 10% over the cap in the offseason, the Flyers only have $3.45 million in cap space, while the Isles have over $11 million.

The Flyers also refuse to move a first rounder, at least right now, and they don't have a second rounder until 2025.

Varlamov would also be a prime asset right now and has real trade value. JVR does not. The Flyers have a LOT working against them.

Its hard for me to believe NJD did not offer 10-11 a year off the bat...if they did we cannot come close to that

It’s not love. The opposite. That was a Fletcher special to bring in an utter failure in Jones as the backup to what should be a Top 10-15 goalie in Hart. However, they went backwards on relying on Hart w/a 0 as a backup.
Jeez drop the Martin Jones love already. It’s over for him. He’s discount rack. Closeout.

We can if Lou wants. Then Lou could offer 11.5 and that’s when Gudreau goes back to NJ and asks if they can best that offer. That’s how you create a bidding war to drive up the price. It’s a business.

Lou knows how to structure a long term wacky deal. This may not be about total money, it may be about structure.
