His step back wasn't a significant one. I see a good/very good winger, with upside that can contribute beyond the scoresheet; not a star, by any stretch. He's at least good for 65-75 pts, which is fair for 7 mil. Barzal is good for 65-75 (perhaps 80), and he's above 9 mil.
 
Not sure how much EK moves the needle for the Pens. He's a glorified Letang. Yeah, he will add dynamism to that offense, but he leaves so much to be desired in his own end. I don't like their D and G, and that core is getting old, EK included.

Seriously, why can’t we have a separate thread for all that so that this thread can be about what it’s supposed to be about?

This thread is always all over the place. Would be better to split it into three different threads really.

Please do not use the L word... it triggers my Expos PTSD.... I can't describe the intense hatred I have for that man and what he did to my 'Spos.
 
For a change of pace, here are the drafted college players who can become free agents on AUG 15th. The bolded ones are those I think will be seen with UFA value, with no less than Farinacci and Mastrosimone surely being sought after:

John Farinacci (C) - ARI (76 OA; '19)
Demetrios Koumontzis (LW) - CGY (108 OA; '18)
Kevin Wall (C) - CAR (181 OA; '19)
Jake Wise (C) - CHI (68 OA; '18)
Robert Mastrosimone (LW) - DET (54 OA; '19)
Jay O'Brien (C) - PHI (19 OA; '18)*
Ryan O'Connell (LD) - TOR (203 OA; '17)
Harrison Blaisdell (C) - WPG (134 OA; '19)
Jared Moe (G) - WPG (184 OA; '18)

PS) We've discussed it at these boards before, but Mastrosimone is a Long Island native and grew up an Islanders fan.

How was Farinacci not signed? I remember he was on that WJ's team in 2020. Jay O'Brien too but he's nothing special.

For the record, I still AM an Expos fan. ;)

And because I went through the death of my Expos, I probably give Wang a little more credit than most around here simply because I know what an actual really shitty owner is, like that carpetbagger that killed the Expos.

Like the pro-Brooklyn and anti-Brooklyn threads? ;)

Seriously, it's not unusual that people will comment on the current GM when discussing the roster, rumors, etc., so Lou should be fair game (although not a fan of the need to categorize other posters as pro or anti Lou....). Extended discussion of the guy who's been gone for 5 years should be in a separate thread (or better yet not at all, IMO).

It's early August. The fact that any of us are even here to talk about anything hockey-related is kinda remarkable... ;)

When discussing the roster and current moves the GM is absolutely fair game. When the conversation is stale and is people repeating the same things over and over again, often in juxtaposition to that of the previous regime, then we're not going to allow it.

It causes the discussions to get stuck, people to get frustrated, and then a lot of cleanup ensues. The points have been made and they do not need to be rehashed every single day.

Alright no more discussion from that. Guess it really did set off an explosion. This offseason really does stink.

I really do wish Lamoriello goes for Hanifin at least. Target him, and call it an offseason. That should help us win that 5th cup.

Trade deadline pick up, he would be incredible.

Pelech-Pulock
Hanafin-Dobson
Romanov-Mayfield

That rivals the Canes for best D in the conference. But we have Sorokin.

I went to college in upstate NY and went to a few Expos games. One time i was sitting on the 1st base line and saw some friends across the field on the 3rd base line. We were able to shout back and forth and exchange a few greetings in perfect clarity, the stadium was so empty. I'll never forget that, lol.

I LOVE the idea of adding Hanafin. Hes a very good player and would solidify the LD. Isles would have a top 5 defense and top 3 goaltending to go along with it. That would be tough to beat over a 7 game series.
