Not sure what we could offer that Anaheim couldn't easily beat, but sure :dunno:
Just listened to the pod, he mentioned Anaheim but said it’s unlikely, said he knows NYI checked in on DeBrincat and has some wiggle room now to potentially do something like that or Tarasenko, and then basically just threw Washington out there as something he wondered about rather than heard a rumor about.

I got the sense that he thinks the Isles interest in adding scoring is legit.

f***in' christ, it better be. If the powers that be didn't see that we couldn't buy a goal most of the season, we'd really be more screwed than we are haha

Yeah it makes sense but Anaheim has players they can trade, and Ottawa doesn't want our crap prospects.

I don't see Mayfield getting a huge number on the open market like a lot of people seem to be assuming. Some lesser team might be okay with him on the 2nd pair and have cap space to pay him $4M+, but contending teams will consider him a good 3rd pair guy and not have space to pay much more than the Isles. Exceptions might be BUF and CAR off the top of my head. So, would he take a team friendly deal that might cost him $250-500k a year (maybe in exchange for some term) in order to stay?

The other question is whether we'd be better off letting him go. I'd prefer a PMD on the 3rd pair who can help on the PP on the one hand. On the other hand, if they're going with Aho and/or Bolduc as the LHD, then Mayfield is a good partner for them.

I'd be more hopeful that he'd take a discount to stick around if he wasn't criminally underpaid for his entire career. He's played a game in ten different NHL seasons and has made less than $10M. It'll be tough for him to take a discount if he wants to be setup for life with a certain lifestyle.

Palmieri, Maggio and a protected 2024 first which becomes a 2025 unprotected 1st if Islanders win the lottery?
So here is the thing I don’t get caught up in ironing down specific trades, because it’s silly to do so. Since neither of us are actual GMs or truly know where the market will go.

With that said, based on previous comparables this offer seems to be in the ballpark. Even if it was Pageau over Palmieri. That initial deal could still work in reality. I personally hope not, but that’s just my opinion.

So that’s to say, I won’t say yes or no. Will say there is possibility of a trade there. Personally, I do hope the Isles trade rather than add via free-agency. Would rather upgrade the wing wile moving cap out.

Would also prefer Nylander over DeBrincat. But not going to immediately scoff at the notion of acquiring him.

Yeah. Mayfield more than most kind of owes himself to chase a payday over other factors. Fans can cry all about heart and chasing winning over cash etc. But these are professionals as much as kids chasing a dream. There is a balance that goes into these decisions.

If Parise hangs the skates up, I wouldnt hate bringing in Wheeler for cheap. Put up 55 points last season but missed 10 games. Was on pace for 76 the year before.

Duchene at a bit of a discount? Fast and finishes.
I would be ALLLLL for that. Feel like he'll have enough suitors that his discount won't be that low, and he'll probably pick some country music-loving southern state since that is what lead him to Nashville originally.

I believe the extension date starts July 1, right? So if Ottawa wants to trade him, but allow teams to talk extension to maximize their return or do a sign and trade, the window opens in a day.
This is correct. It's why I wasn't shocked that he wasn't traded at the draft, which was the original post I was addressing.

If Carrie Underwood had little sisters, we'd ALL be thinking that
