Pretty fair deal to dump Bailey's contract. Figured it would take a 2nd but being a 2026 second is pretty sweet (you're talking about a player who would be in the NHL 2028-2030 if he even makes it).
Happy to get that cap space. Makes the offseason a little more interesting.
Lou still needs to move more money to add someone. We can not "run it back" again.
TarasenkoVery interesting. I don't think NYI would do this to resign Mayfield & Engvall. I think they're in on something bigger. Wonder what it is.
He plays zero defense, hence why FL wants to move on.Get Duclair on a reasonable contract. The guys has excellent anticipation IQ...he's fast, he has a nice shot.
Agree.Tarasenko
I'm actually at the point of just wanting Luke Schenn as a FA to replace him and use the money elsewhereI really don't want to see Mayfield return. The Isles need a PP specialist in that spot.
If, at the deadline they want to add a physical defenseman, they can pick one up then on the cheap.
Heck, they might even be able to sign one at the vet minimum to compete in camp or claim one off waivers during the season.
Please let Mayfield walk. He will be an absolute anchor in a couple seasons.
Bailey at 5 million no Bueno Bailey at 500k yes lol
Welcome Back to the island Josh Bailey!!
Once upon a time this entire fanbase wanted Filatov with that pick and were so pissed the Isles didn’t select him…
Well, he was the next Bure…But have you considered that the 2nd rounder three years from now might be the next Filatov?!

That's basically it. I would love to somehow get Varly at $2m, Engvall at $3.5m and use $5m for an upgrade on Mayfield....but it doesn't seem like we will have that opportunity. We are priced out of Orlov/Dumba and there likely isn't someone who is a small step up from Mayfield.
Mayfield is a perfectly fine 3 pairing Dman and brings a level of physicality that we need, but it would be nice if we also had someone who could enter the zone with the puck.
Still think Parise re-signs but his vet minimum contract won't impact our cap.
You may be correct about Mayfield, I left Parise off, because I think there is a good chance he retires - if he does then Fasching and Holmstrom can rotate in or fight for that regular spot in the lineup. This is what I think is going to happen. Mayfield may get more on the open market which may end up a decision point.
Only catch is Parise. They will need a bottom 6 LW potentially…
Yeah, because that 2nd round pick will be a backbreaker! If your foresight is correct, then by then the team will be pawning off assets to recoup picks, so WHO gives a SHIT about a 2nd rounder then.A lot can happen between now and then, but won't be as "sweet" if Lou is gone and we're rebuilding then.
