Sure it is dream land. However 7 million is still a huge contract for a guy that is completely useless when hes not within 10 ft of the net.
How many of us would be blasting Lou if he let Lee walk the same time that Tavares walked?

"Lee is EXACTLY what we need right now to fix the PP and lead us in the playoffs!" is what you'd see here I bet...

Resigning Lee was a reactionary move much like the Ladd signing.
In what ways do you see these two signings as similar? Or specifically, reactionary?

Snow/Weight wine dined and showed the schools to the Ladds. He was targeted during the negotiations period then signed. Not reactionary, just a bad choice.

While not hard evidence… Lee’s agent has debunked many of the rumors about the signing. The quote under my name “really fries my bananas,” actually comes from him about the press reports suggesting Lee would sign elsewhere.

Yes, I think the Isles targeted Panarin before signing Lee. But I think Lee would’ve been re-signed regardless. Probably at a million less with an extra year.

I just think this board has ran with conjectured narration that Lee was a fall back to Panarin. But here is a direct quote from Lee about negotiations with his agent (Neil) and Lou:

“In principal, Lou had and Neil had agreed on some things that allowed Lou to go after some other things out there and then things kind of fell into place.”

The true fact of the matter is much like Leddy and Toews the second the islanders trade Lee and his 28 goals out of the lineup they would be looking for another big bodied forward who isn't afraid to get in the dirty areas. This is not even touching base on the fact that he is willing to fight and has shown to be a leader in the most difficult season this franchise has likely ever had post Tavares.

Lee deserves a lot more credit than some are willing to give him. Players like him do not grow on trees. He was also having what was likely going to be one of his best seasons ever before he got injured the year they lost in game 7 to Tampa.

Lee would have been signed to a big money and long term contract. He is a proven goal scorer and leader.

Surprised more aren't discussing this. It really seems to be a great hire that further suggests Malkin really is a great businessman. Whether or not he's good at overseeing hockey operations is another thing entirely...

I feel like if Lee lost some weight, he'd play better. This past season it looked like his legs can't keep up with his 6'3 230-235 frame. He seemed gassed pretty quickly and and weak legs, falling down a lot. Maybe he should drop to like 220.
Just have to laugh when I hear weak legs and Anders Lee in the same sentence. Have you ever seen his tree trunks?

I agree. Seems somewhat overlooked that the knee injury had a two season effect. The signing was both important and appropriate. Jump to the Kevin Hayes thread to see what a bad contract really is.

Regarding the PP, when one or two players fail it is likely them, When the entire team top to bottom can't execute it's the plan.

A Metro team gets better while Lou sits on his hands and keeps the same failing group around.

I'm no Lou supporter, but at least give yourself time to exhale before your start criticizing. The offseason hasn't truly begin yet and lots of moves can, and hopefully will, be made.

If you want to be more justified in your critique of his GM'ing, then judge his last 2 years of moves as there's plenty to get on Lou's case about there for how he's jammed up the cap and left literally no youth to take over as this group ages and continues to fade into mediocrity.

Umm Lame, if you go 25-48-9, they would get better if you signed with them for 3x$75.00 . . . at least you'd come cheap and probably have some skills they could use . . .

We hear this here every season lol. Bluejackets got Gudreau, oh my god, they got so much better and Isles didn't. I remember when everyone lost their shit when the devils drafted Hughes, signed PK subban and Gustev and the devils went nowhere.

F**k me. Who'd give Severson 8 years?

Small wonders there are hardly any hockey trades in the NHL anymore, with half the rosters signed for eternity.

Price was CGY 3rd.
