Resigning Lee was a reactionary move much like the Ladd signing.

Snow/Weight wine dined and showed the schools to the Ladds. He was targeted during the negotiations period then signed. Not reactionary, just a bad choice.
While not hard evidence… Lee’s agent has debunked many of the rumors about the signing. The quote under my name “really fries my bananas,” actually comes from him about the press reports suggesting Lee would sign elsewhere.
Yes, I think the Isles targeted Panarin before signing Lee. But I think Lee would’ve been re-signed regardless. Probably at a million less with an extra year.
I just think this board has ran with conjectured narration that Lee was a fall back to Panarin. But here is a direct quote from Lee about negotiations with his agent (Neil) and Lou:
