They have been misusing Horvat on the power play. Even with Barzal out, I feel like Horvat could've had so much more success on the PP if they put him in the slot. A lot of his goals in Vancouver either came from deflections or one timers up front. Playing him on the outside, or asking him to drive play is totally butchering the point of having him.

He has nasty hand-eye coordination, and a great shot, which makes him perfect in front of the net. I understand that's Lee's specialty too, so why are we playing the both of them at the same time? No wonder Horvat struggled so much since coming here.

You have to use him right, and for the most part, he hasn't been used right. Get pucks on net, and let Horvat do what he does best. Put Lee on the second PP, and maybe then you'd see some better results.

This
Horvat is just as adept at tips and can actually shoot the puck
Horvat plays higher and is far more mobile, makes him more difficult to defend
Lee is an old school, park in the crease, screen the goalie, get garbage goals
Somewhat similar yet different skill sets
Redundant on pp
Probably shouldn’t play together at all
I think Lee fits more with a shoot first guy like Nelson, need a puck carrier on a line with those 2
Barzal and Horvat I’d like to give more time together, their speed and skill could mesh

Lee can get the puck on the side of the net and Horvat can rotate into the hole created by Lee, and either the far side half wall player cuts into the high slot or the defenseman comes down from the point to go into the bumper.

The power play needs movement and options. It's so f***ing stale, it's like watching a beer league power play.
Lee doesn’t move well and really has no shot outside of jamming it or a tip
His shooting is really poor outside of on the doorstep

Reigning Mayfield would be a mistake IMO. Not because he's not a good player and a really useful one too, but simply because something's gotta give. We simply cannot return with the same players every season and expect different results or improvement once those players are into their 30s like Mayfield. If anything it contributes to making the team more stale and filled with aging players on long term deals they cannot wriggle out of.

Let the UFAs walk and focus on getting younger and faster.

Lee is a shell of his former self. His contract is going to be a boat anchor. I wish we could get out of that contract.

He doesn't really need to move all that well for this and teams can't just leave a guy wide open in the high slot area, no matter who it is. It's not a permanent thing either, it's just a different look to create movement so the defenders have to move, communicate, and make decisions. The more you get them moving around the more likely they are to have a mistake.

Really? I thought he was exactly the same guy we've had for years. Now, that guy definitely has limitations but he was approaching 30 goals and scored in streaks - mostly from within 5-10 feet of the goal. That's Anders Lee in a nut shell.

This. If you look at his career numbers, this year's were pretty much in line with what he's done his entire career save for the Weight the heck with defense season. Surprisingly, his goal total was tied for the third highest in his career. He's a 25-30 goal forward, always has been, and still is.

Lee still had 28 goals, second on the team and with a dysfunctional PP where we're leaving goals on the table. He's not anywhere near my level of concerns.
Lee is a defensive liability who can’t keep up with the flow of the game. His 25 goals don’t mean much if the other team continually out scores the Isles while Lee is on the ice.

One of the players I was intrigued by (Athanasiou) just re-upped with Chicago at 4.25M per over two seasons.

Engvall will likely be able to command similar contract value at 8-9M in total dollars.

If I’m NYI, I’m looking to stretch that out over three years and would even go as high as 3.33M per to ensure there is no trade protection at all.

Anything more than that and I’d be out of him.

He looks slower and worse defensively than he was years prior.

Meh - he was a -3 last year. Considering he's most effective on the power play, that's not terrible. He was -11 the year before. Not saying +/- is the end all, be all, but its not like we're getting constantly scored on when he's on the ice.

If he gives us 25+ goals a year, I'm good enough with that. Always thought it wasn't a great deal, but so far, its holding up well enough.

I feel like if Lee lost some weight, he'd play better. This past season it looked like his legs can't keep up with his 6'3 230-235 frame. He seemed gassed pretty quickly and and weak legs, falling down a lot. Maybe he should drop to like 220.

For me, lee seems to have disappeared somewhat. He's getting points, but he just doesn't seem as noticeable or dominant around the net as he used to be.

I think it's because of the way the Islanders are approaching the offense now. During the Tavares years the team played below the hash marks and behind the goal line a lot more than they do right now and that was when Lee was most effective at controlling/dictating play. If the team isn't cycling then he isn't able to use his frame as well in open space.

I'd just like to see him dropped in the lineup but he's still a force in front of the net that cannot be neglected. 28 goals isn't anything to look down upon and this team needs all the goal scoring it can get. We all knew that contract wouldn't age well the moment it was signed, it's the price of doing business.

Considering how bad the power play was Lee’s numbers are just fine.

If this teams power play had a pulse the concern of slower players would not be of such importance.

Not anywhere near levels of concerns? Maybe if he was paid 3 million, for 7 million he is horrible. He cant pass, is awful defensively, and one of the slowest skaters in the league.
What player in the NHL will cost you $3 million for 28 goals every year, which is pretty much his long-time average and pretty consistently. That's dream land territory.

LMK if you figure out how to do that. Asking for a friend...
Give up the alcohol and sugar, worked for me. I went from 190 to 175 without doing pretty much anything else . . .
Well, I gave up sex too, but not willingly, the past 12 months . . .

Sure it is dream land. However 7 million is still a huge contract for a guy that is completely useless when hes not within 10 ft of the net.
