The team needs to be able to play more than one way. The Isles' dynasty team was famous for being able to beat teams any way they wanted to play. This team has one route to victory, and it's too hard to win consistently playing their style, IMO. The team needs to play faster. Skating. Puck-moving.

I mean how can you compare that dynasty team to the roster that snow/Lou assembled? Who on the 23-24 Islanders is going to the Hall of Fame?
You need to read my post again. What I said was, Lou is better than Torrey, Lambert is better than Arbour, and Barzal/Palmieri/Lee/Pelech are better than Trottier/Bossy/Gillies/Potvin.

He busted his ass to get that deal.
Better than Ladd, who got a deal and then busted his ass.

Man, just realized that 4 of those 6 legends are no longer with us. :(

What you mentioned above , some sort of larger deal is needed. To me, Lee's got to be moved only because we can't afford his slowness but another piece (Barzal) has to be considered only because his style doesn't fit their makeup. I would hate for this move to happen but if there was something that could be had to improve the overall team, we need to look at it. The other side is, if you can add to the Barzal team makeup using the above except for Sorokin, you do it. This team needs to get a little less grittier and a whole lot more skilled
Idk, but I don't think Lee is moveable this offseason. I'd give him the year, and then contemplate a buyout.

Which also means he's probably going to be a penalty killer. We need help
If Holmstom is on the roster, he will become a fixture on the PK imo. Clutterbuck shouldn't kill penalties anymore, which is why he shouldn't be on the roster.

I do not fear the Senators or Sabres until they have goaltending. This team needs help in a few aspects, but Dmitri Orlov is priority #1. Regardlessly we need that player, we need a puck mover, and I would gladly see him in the Visnovsky role.
I wouldn't give Orlov the kind of money he may command.

Lots of disappointing finishes around the league this year. Makes you think there might be more deals to be made this off-season than usual. Two of the best playmaking/PP wingers in the league are available for peanuts, according to their fanbases anyway (Panarin and Huberdeau).

Have to admit, having more fun reading the raggies board about blowing up or going nuclear. Panarin seems to be getting the heat.

Never thought I'd feel fortunate having missed out on him, but man...Talk about disappearing when it matters most.

Lambert not speaking to the media seems to be an indication he may be on his way out. Who would you all like as a replacement? Laviolette, Boudreau, he who shall not be named (Quennville) are available, and I'm sure some others. So whose your hire?

Well written piece on the Isles...With a very interesting nugget in there.

I can see it now...Lou moves up to team president, and his son becomes the GM. :surrender:shakehead

Will Lou Lamoriello remain at his GM post with New York Islanders?

After quadrupling down on his aging core that is locked-up long-term on Long Island, there were whispers on Monday that Lamoriello might be angling upward toward a president role in the Islanders’ front office. Good luck getting the truth – the Islanders belong in the “Only God and Lou know” category. The Hall of Fame Builder is the NHL’s first-ever 80-year-old GM. Critics were wondering whether Lamoriello lost his fastball five years ago when he landed on Long Island, but the Islanders’ best runs in three decades resulted.

The issue now is the Islanders are totally committed to that group. They have 12 skaters signed through at least the next two seasons, according to CapFriendly. Nine of their forwards are on the wrong side of 30. And that doesn’t include Bo Horvat, who struggled mightily after his blockbuster trade, and signed an 8-year, $68 million deal that takes him to age 36. Since they barely snuck in as assembled, when will the Islanders make the playoffs again? It’s a fair question.

If Lou moves upstairs I have no doubt it'll be Chris taking over as GM.

If Lambert is out, I think it is highly likely that the next Islanders coach is one with "NHL experience" (i.e. a retread). I think that Quenneville (assuming he's OK'd by Bettman) would bring baggage. I'm not sure if Ledecky/Malkin (and Lou, assuming he's still here, in some capacity) would want that potential distraction right now.

My money would be on Laviolette.

Get Tarasenko. I think he fits what this team needs like a glove

I think that, with Panarin, the Islanders win one of the bubble tournies for the cup

At this point though? Yeahhhh, he looks bad lol

Lou moving up is fine. It's okay to keep him around so a new GM can learn from him.

I see it as the exact opposite.

You shouldn't usually hire a GM unless he's ready to take over that spot (and not just your current backup goalie). It's one thing if your GM seeks consult in a respected colleague...It's totally embarrassing if a GM was hired before they were ready and had to lean on the team president to make moves.

Even further...My problem is that no great GM is going to want to work under Lou because, right or wrong, I'm sure they will expect he will meddle in the GM's business and he won't have full control/final say as to what he wants to do.

It's why Lambert was the *easy* choice as coach, and why Chris Lamoriello would be the *easy* choice as next GM. It would be a horrible move, but it feels like to me Lou has control over Malkin/Ledecky the way snow had control over wang.

We need to get off this salve mindset that if we don't have Lou around we can't survive. Plenty of other teams out there winning Cups that have never had Lou even intern there.

I would also throw Andrew Brunnette into the fray as a candidate for head coach. He did a good job with the Panthers after Coach Q got fired. I thought he deserved a chance to have that interim tag removed this year.

All this talk about what Lou wants to do. But I wonder what the owners want to do?

I was thinking about this the other day- does any other team in the league have as many players that have been in the organization 10+ years without ever actually having won a championship? We've had very little success outside of 2 years with very little roster turnover. Odd combination.

DUI arrest from this past season may complicate him landing another job… until there is an official resolution.

Does anyone seriously believe Lou wouldn’t be the one actually still in charge if he moved up to president, especially if it’s his son taking over the GM role?
