Why do you have to ruin my buzz...?

As long as Ladd plays ONE (1) game for the Coyotes this year we keep the 2023 3rd.

Palmieri has a full NTC for another season (then it becomes a partial NTC).
Pretty sure the condition was if Ladd played one professional game anywhere next year than the Isles keep the pick. As per CapFriendly here is the total complicated condition:

**Conditions: The pick is transferred to Arizona if Ladd:
1. Does not play in any professional games in 2022-23 while under his current contract, or
2. Does not retire prior to the conclusion of the 2022-23 regular season

With Goaltending around the league being at such a premium, it would take a lot for me to move Varly with one year remaining on his deal. Lou is always a few steps ahead when it comes to having a #1A and even a #1B. But some given teams are desperate for a Goalie. If the return was significant, I wonder do we deal him if the team is not on his no trade to list.

With Lou, Isles are lucky to have 2, #1 Goalies. Not many teams have this luxury.

But do you really want the task of having Sorokin and then god forbid Appleby or Schneider as a backup? That is what you will be dealing with if you are Lou by trading Varlamov.

That seems to say the Isles only get the pick if Ladd plays at least 1 game and then retires during the season, right?

This is the last year of Ladd's contract. He gets paid $4M, but that consists of a $3M signing bonus and then $1M salary. Does he get to keep the signing bonus no matter what, even if he retires before the season starts? I'm hoping he has to play at least 1 game to get the bonus. Then maybe he'll retire and we keep the pick.

I would trust Lou making the deal only if he had a capable back up. I don't know, sign Holtby and roll the dice. I have always been a believer of Sorokin, his stats and play were outstanding in a tough season to make me entertain moving Varly, but only at the right price.

Now the question is where do we really send Varly? Could it be a place like Edmonton or Toronto? Or could it be to a place like San Jose?

I am sure Lou is a nice guy, but when it comes to hockey and doing what is best for the Isles, he would be ruthless. Whichever team is most desperate to win now. I think Varly has already said no to Edmonton. This may change given the Oil went to the Conference Finals. But if I were Lou, I exploit the desperation, the overpayment and consider this. If there is no overpayment. I happily hold onto Varly this year. And maybe revisit this at the TDL when similar desperation will no doubt follow. There is always a team or 2 desperate for Goaltending.

Given how thin the market got in a day, i could easily see lou just dangling Varlamov for a 1st and prospect akin to Kuemper's trade btw. If we are smart, go sign Holtby and steal him from Toronto.

Calling Sakic "ok" is a bit unexpected from a guy who goes on and on about how important management is and how teams need to hit on draft picks/trades. Personally, I'll trust Sakic's judgement on this deal because he has been proven to be right time and time again.

It's only unexpected if you don't understand nuance. I said he's "OK" - Just not a god like so many fanboys make him out to be.

Speaking of...Did you actually review all of Sakic's moves and drafts in the roughly decade he's been GM?

He’s pretty much a bust. So many guys drafted AFTER him are so much better. He was 3rd overall. Marner picked right after him. For a 3rd overall, he’s been traded once already, and now cut. There’s no there, there, he is who he is. A decent player, but not very good or great. I wouldn’t pay him big money. Maybe 2.5 mill a year as a show me contract.

There's a significant divide between a guy putting up 20-30-50 a season (for 3M/year)...And being a "bust."

I'm not saying Strome is great, but he was an asset that had value and the Blackhawks just said, "We don't care about getting anything back...We're going for Bedard."

I'm mystified by the Leaf fans who still defend Dubas with passion, they are the most deluded morons I've ever seen.

Fans of any team are so passionate that you'll see them taking any number of sides vehemently and as a result it's hard for them to see clearly. I mean a decade ago many Isles fans thought that garth sn-

I'll just stop there.

I am fairly certain I saw a headline earlier that Holtby is out for this year and will potentially need to retire.

Can you elaborate a little bit here? He just won the cup, how is that just "OK"? You love Yzerman and he didn't even win.

Y'all realize Kubalik needs 4m to be qualified right?

Strome's is 3.6m

And that was probably why teams didn't want to trade anything for them

Both cap hits are higher than what player is worth at this point (Especially Kubalik) so teams' figure if they have interest they will kick tires on them at UFA especially when it became clear Hawks were not going to qualify them

I believe Ladd will not get bought out and is part of the AZ roster.

You’re not going to convince @periferal

Sakic turned around that organization and brought home a cup - whatever blight he wants to highlight pales in comparison to building a team that brought home a cup - mind u in such short time

I always found the parameters of this trade strange. Essentially the Isles have to pay an extra 3rd if Ladd fails to not play one professional game AND retires before the conclusion of the season. What is odd is this...

Isles had to pay two second round picks to just get him OFF the Isles. The notion is that the Isles have to pay because he is a negative impact... Right?

So then it flips to the Isles have to pay a third to KEEP him on Arizona's lineup. So what, now he is a positive impact? Arizona wants protection against him not being part of their lineup?

I'm sure it still cap related, but It's just always been a weird mental shift that it goes from pay because Arizona has to "suffer him" on their lineup. To then, pay because the Coyotes may lose him a year early...?

But this can all be easily resolved....

Bailey and Wilde to Arizona for all further conditions of the Ladd trade resolved and pick comes the Isles way instead. ;)
