I would look into a Bailey-Hoffman swap with MTL. Both players suck, but maybe MTL values Bailey's leadership and experience with the young guys which isn't exactly known to be Hoffman's strong suit. He could help the PP and we'd save 500k on the cap as well. Maybe we add a late round pick to cover the difference.

Worst case scenario you just bench Hoffman like you do now with Bailey. Gonna have to get creative no matter what if we want to swap some pieces around.

Interesting idea with pros and cons on both sides.

Bailey is only owed $3.5 million in real money, while Hoffman is owed $5 million in real money.

If the idea is to try and trade a player to free up cap space, Bailey should be easier to move. Especially if a GM needs to get ownership approval and/or is limited in terms of total payroll.

If it is a buyout, then the cap hit for Bailey is ~$2.66 and ~$1.16 million over the two years in 2023-24 and 2024-25, while Hoffman's cap hit is ~$1.16 and ~$1.66 million over the two years in 2023-24 and 2024-25. The extra $1 million next season could be helpful.

Of course before even entertaining an acquisition of Hoffman, you would think that JGP would be consulted on Hoffman and all of the extra-curricular activity that went down, since he was with Ottawa.

Just my gut, but I don't think Lou would have the desire to trade for a player like Hoffman given his questionable defense, personality and baggage.

If the Isles were going to trade Bailey for a comparable player on the downside, it might also be preferable to try and trade for a struggling defenseman, ideally a RHD, just in case Mayfield leaves as a UFA.

At least attempt to fill that RHD3 spot, even if only as a placeholder.

Come get Pageau Parise and Mayfield

This is what the Isles should be doing, albeit on a smaller scale. Trade Varlamov and Mayfield to recoup assets that can be used towards moving out some dead weight or acquiring players in the 25-28 age range that will fit in with our current core.

Smart. He fits perfectly with their young core forwards like Thomas and Kyrou

Another game I would consider not tops for Dobson tonight. He's looking like a glorified Paul Boutilier lately
Wow
I remember him, different times
Dobson has been good, even impressive before this year, new coach, new system? Different partner?
Still a long ways away from a finished product

He was impressive early this season. I wonder if the lack of goals is impacting his overall play. I think Trotz riding him made him a better player "tough love" calls it Ollie Wahlstrom and Isaac Brock

If you've seen any pics or videos of Paul from recent years, you will note he is what we like to say in my house, less than thin.

I remember him being a super great guy!

Why was the GDT closed?

Anyway, use some magick on Barzal's injury, and speed up that recovery. Take these efforts compounded by his skill, this is a playoff contender. Don't think it's sustainable (without him), but I'd love to be proved wrong.

Truly appreciate the blue-collar work; the full collective. I knew Holms was going to finish that. He can finish; if he has the right time and space-- whether that be out by the circles, or net.

Parise has been a warrior. I've loved him since day 1. You can tell he wants a taste of those playoffs. Imagine what he would've done in the ECF's.

He doesn't look good, might aswell pick up Chris Tierney.
It might not be a bad call to put in a claim. They only have 44 out of 50 max contracts.
We all hope JGP would come back soon but he isn't even skating.

I really like what I've seen from Durandeau - he has some really good speed and love his tenacity on the forecheck. I just don't know how sustainable this run is, but it is awesome to see them come through!

Horvat has looked great too.

the next 3 games before the TDL -
Friday 2/24 - Kings
Sunday 2/26 - @ Jets
Tuesday 2/28 - @ Minn

THEN 3 full days off before they face a big game against the Red Wings at Home on Saturday, March 4th
Hopefully, by then Pageau will be back.
