If Horvat doesn't resign by the TDL he should be moved on. Period. By then Lou should have sussed him out regarding staying or not. The last thing we need is giving up good assets for nothing and ending up like the Tavares situation all over again. Give him a deadline to sign. It's that simple.
Simple!

Make a major trade bringing in an all star. Then give him an ultimatum, do a complete 180 on the team's direction and strategy and trade him after 12 games for picks/prospects.

Makes sense. All professional organizations do things like this.

Simple!

Point taken. I think Horvat is getting resigned (The problem is that, unlike Pageau who came with a contract, Lou has to be willing to overpay now to not have egg on his face).

Also, in case things go sideways and Horvat doesn't want to resign...What pending UFA has Lou ever traded?
Horvat is getting overpaid anywhere - he’s a UFA to be. Miller got 7/56 (RFA) Horvat’s gonna get 8/64-72. Johnny Trademark got 7/68. Barzal got 8/73 (RFA).

Acciari (insurance for bottom six) and Barbashev (one year removed from a 60 point season) would make sense…

Barbashev-Horvat-Barzal
Lee-Nelson-Palmieri
Parise-Pageau-Holmstrom
Martin-Cizikas-Acciari
Fasching, Johnston

Trade Bailey for whatever…

Miller was not an RFA - he was set to be a UFA and the Canucks resigned him with 1 year left.

Good ideas, particularly Barbashev. He's a very solid multipurpose forward option.

What are we trading?

My tip for a player who I think may be available in a lateral move and could be had on the cheap, yet is a lot better than many may think, is Calgary's Adam Ruzicka.

I can see us trading for Tarasenko or Barbashev, both good fits. Or out of nowhere for Ryan O'Reilly. Lou will probably do something totally unexpected. I remember being happy to get Smyth & Vanek, this too much uncertainty for me to get excited yet.

Wahlstrom is a chip, 2nds and B tier prospects are on the table (Isk, Salo, etc.)

I can also see Lou going to Henrique.

Henrique-Horvat-Barzal
Lee-Nelson-Pamieiri

Henrique and Horvat would be an addition of 49 goals…

Wahlstrom will not be moved as long as he is injured and exactly how scorched earth is Lou going? Henrique is owed $5.8 million for nest season and I don't see how they can fit that under the cap unless Bailey goes the other way. Assuming he trades away the 2nd, 3rd and whatever good prospects are left (Salo, Isk, Dufour) for a rental like Tarasenko (who they cannot afford to resign if Horvat resigns) , then the club is left barren.

Barbashev has enough offense to be in the top six but has more jam than guys like Bailey/Holmstrom.

Fasching is a nice depth option but I wouldn’t want him in the top six long term.

Are we looking for a winger with more jam? An artist who everyone thinks is the only type of winger Barzal can work with? Or is salary cap going to dictate the type of player we go after?

I think he stays also, it’s interesting that Lebrun I think it was said isles would have been at top of his list in free agency anyway. What else does Lou have up his sleeve is going to be question. Team probably needs 8-9 wins in the 13 games before deadline I’d say.

Assuming Horvat centers Barzal they need a winger for them. I don’t think it needs to be star, Barbashev is interesting for that, I’d imagine Bertuzzi also would be interesting there. Maybe a guy with a little edge to his game is right for that spot. I’m ok with Holmstrom with Pageau and Parise and to me Fasching can fit with Cizikas and Martin. I think they should also look for left shot defenseman assuming they aren’t going to trade Mayfield.

And those contracts discussions were had PRIOR to the trade being finalized with Ottawa.
Isles probably know the parameters of what Horvat is looking for, it’s really about finalizing other things like no trades or no movements and how much cash is up front, later on etc.

Barbashev is nice, but considering we probably have the assets for 1 signifiant trade and Lou is beyond all in, why not go after a true 1st line goal scorer in Tarasenko?

A line of Barzal/Horvat/Tarasenko is legit (not to mention on the PP) - And so much better than Barzal/Horvat/anyone else on the team.

I like Barbashev - seems like someone who would fits the style of play here.

Unfortunately, right now Bailey slots in on that top line - I think Holmstrom Pageau Parise is the third, unless Lane wants to bump Parise up with Horvat and Barzal.

The price for Barbashev? A 2nd and Ishkahov? Barbashev next contract looks like 4/4.25- similar to Mihkeyev. I think I’d rather use assets to land Tank. I wonder if Wahlstrom and a 2nd gets it done?

Literally, writing the same thing. Nice

Only thing that worries me on Tarasenko is health/age, he’s legitimately probably best goal scorer available and deal would most likely be less than what we gave up for Horvat due to his age and his ability to choose mostly where he is going.

Bailey and lower prospect or pick for Henrique makes a lot of sense cap wise

I know it's a joke on here for trading for Henrique but I'd actually like adding him.

Also wouldn't mind adding a cup winner even if it's Jack Johnson. Nick Bonino is one that actually would be a good fit. Then there are guys like Nick Holden and Jack Johnson as depth LD options.

What do people think the price for Bertuzzi will be? And what do you think his contract looks like? 5x5? Wahlstrom for Bertuzzi? Not enough?

Sure, but he elected sign before being a UFA and his agent advised him to sign now since there was no cap space left - he was gonna get squeezed.
