Given the brittle status of Cal, maybe there's room for both Parise and Holmstrom. I'd rather have Parise over Martin and probably Bailey at this point. He's a pro's pro and I might feel differently if he wasn't contributing. He's a madman on the forecheck and plays good D and has good offensive IQ. Skates surprisingly solid for his age and very durable
Agreed , however it's Parise that they'll come calling for. He's shocked me for sure 13 goals in 49 games huge bonus , great value here and he still has a motor at his age . This has been a very good acquisition .

It’s not falling and Feb. is actually not that bad. This was a bad stretch. The next 10 games can see them jump back in and make us believers again.

There are so many bad teams -
Chicago, Anaheim, Arizona, Columbus, San Jose, Vancouver, ottawa, and Montreal willl be 1 to 8 in some order. Philly makes 9, Detroit probably 10, then the cluster of close but not enough - picke’em - Blues11, Isles 12, Preds 13, Fla 14, Sabres 15, and Oilers 16.
Good post and spot on. I agree that just when we thought they were done, the Isles might have a run in them as they get healthy.

The part about making us believers will not include me. I know what I’ve seen and I can’t unsee it.

In a related note, Chychrun deal would end after the 24/25 season when most of our middle six forward hated deals are past or well past. Meaning we shouldn’t have cap issues by then.

I wouldn't put it past Lou to make that deal for Chychrun instead of Meier that is of course the Devils might have stronger pieces to secure that deal. Ideally, I would love both, but dealing for one and then addressing the other with free agency may be the way this team moves forward.

Trade for Chychrun and sign Tank or Trade for Meier and sign Gavrikov or for a lesser deal for Gostisbehere.

Keller has that long term contract: we can't get that unfortunately.
Hypothetically, Nelson 6m Mayfield (1.45 for now) cover Kellers 7.15m, then let varlamov walk if he isnt traded and you cover keller for the next years after the first two.

"Lambert has been encouraged with the response of his players to the adversity. "Great group of guys," said the 58-year-old, who pointed to breaking out of the defensive zone efficiently as a key area of concern. "They respond and they care and they want to win. Guiding them in that direction is imperative.""

The article is about the Isles' lack of offense - maybe support for the idea that they're looking at a defenseman.

AZ appears to be asking for 2 first round picks at minimum. Chychrun won't help with a team that needs offensive help on the wing. Giving up 2 first round picks, will just put any quick rebuild back even further.

Thanks for the response. You are probably right and both would cost a ton. If not these players, wonder if Lou looks for other wingers or a center for the exact scenario you outlined. If and when Wally comes back I would prefer he is back with JGP and maybe shop for a 2C in the off season.

We all know 2C or elite wingers don't grow on trees! Lou is up against it and there are no easy answers.
i'm a huge wally fan. i accept the fact that he may never be what he was drafted to be but i feel he can still be an asset. someone astutely posted a few days ago that wally has played his best hockey with pageau.

Agreed , however it's Parise that they'll come calling for. He's shocked me for sure 13 goals in 49 games huge bonus , great value here and he still has a motor at his age . This has been a very good acquisition .
honestly, i think he's earned the right to call his own shot, just like greene and chara who did not want to chase a cup last season. if parise wants to go for it, he deserves the chance and if he wants to stay, he deserves that respect as well

the isles really haven't had a great draft since the 80's tbh. they also really stink at finding a goal scorer, and it just feels scornful watching Nylander dunk all over us when he was available at 4 in 2014. the point is that the isles have to find some goalscorer someday. maybe it is Dufour, maybe its someone else, but until that day comes we haven't been an offensive powerhouse in years.

2015 could've been so much better if they hit on a few different guys, but thats essentially whataboutism
The Isles' drafting in the 80s was actually pretty bad. Brent Sutter in '80 and Lafontaine in '83 were exceptions, but generally after Devellano left (just prior to the Lafontaine draft) it was not good.

oh brother. i could imagine that Lamoriello is still not pleased, but that has to be very thin, faint optimism.
Yeah....been a while since we had a Lou sighting and he really does not seem very happy, and he shouldn't. In not so many words, for Lou, he is seemingly putting a good bit squarely on the players.

Also watched the Lane presser....i would speculate that they are very likely discussing personnel changes. There was a different feel to Lane. Might just be me.

Look, i am pissed at Lou and Lane, and hell the players....i still though would like to see them all succeed....here.

Lou has to realize that he's the guy still conducting the show and building this team. I get that he expects these guys to produce but, they're older now. you aren't getting the same anders lee before that ACL tear.

In the next 10 games we have -
Ottawa on the road (loss)
Det at home (win)
VGK home (loss)
Phily on the road (you would think a win but we have split 2 game so far with them), Sea at home (loss)
Van at home (win)
Montreal on the road (win)
Ottawa at home (win)
Pitts at home (loss)
Boston on the road (loss)

That's 4-6...and I'm not sure we get 4 wins.

This core is cooked, we need to stop and just realize it's best for us to suck to get a better pick. But more importantly, Lou doesn't make a trade mortgaging our futere because we will be so far out of it.

Well...he does say it falls on him to make the team better....again taking responsibility...but no idea where that really gets us. But it is the first time i recall having seen him noticeably pissed by the play of the team....well as noticeably as Lou gets, lol.

what did lou expect? the team to play quick and fast?

this is the problem that we have as a team: we aint built to compete against teams like the canes, leafs, stars, knights, rangers, devils, bruins, and even the capitals. they're just so lost against the top 13 in the NHL.

You are leaving out a key item - games in hand

Rangers, Penguins, Sabres all have 2 games in hand on us.
I beg your pardon, yes I did, mischievously I left that key detail out. In the 15 games leading up to the deadline we are playing 4 games against those 8 teams including a home and home with Pittsburgh. One could say that these 15 games are our playoffs. 9-6 and we should stand pat, 10-5 we add, 8-7 or worse and we sell the UFAS for bargain basement prices. We need as many top 100 picks as possible.
