"The asking price for Chychrun, per Friedman on his “32 Thoughts” podcast, is two first-round picks plus a package, whether it is two first-round picks or the kind of prospect that basically equals a first-round pick.”

Lottery protected 1st+Bolduc and whatever else I've seen above apparently doesn't come close to their ask. It's also the reason why he hasn't been traded yet! Hell of an ask.

Good luck to the team that must think he’s Scott Niedemeyer. He ain’t.

Also, nice move by AZ to float that nonsense to Friedman to try to establish the market and work down. Hasn’t worked yet, but maybe some team will ante up. AZ has nothing better to do than mull over dreams of prospects and picks…

all in favor of making a trade, but when do we actually get a guy that can bury goals like there is no tomorrow? I don't know, think we sold our soul for #22 and this is how we get repaid 40 years later

You think trading for Chychrun wouldn't also cost a 1st rounder though?

We should really be selling and getting some fresh blood in here. Get rid of Bailey, Clutterbuck, Mayfield, Beau, Palmieri, maybe Nelson too. Go after Larkin/DeBrincat/Dubois/Horvat in the offseason, buy low on Bertuzzi/Dumba/etc.

Can't see it happening, but the team needs a facelift.
Yes, which is why my OP says RECOUP a 1st.

It will be very difficult to move Palmieri and Bailey - Palmieri more than Bailey. Beau will net you a mid-round pick. I can see Clutterbuck, Mayfield, Varlamov, and Pairse all being dealt at the TDL.

I see the argument for Nelson, but with Horvat, ROR, Toews, & Monahan all on the market this TDL - I see Nelson as a possible off-season move, however, I can also see him helping the transition of Raty as the future 2C (if he is the future 2C). To some degree, it may be better to have him age out - the team still needs to be competitive.

Ideally that would be the return, but I'm unsure about Beau's value. I think they'll have to take on a similar contract to get rid.
Contrary to almost everyone here , Beau has value ! and it would be foolish getting rid of him based on what this team's makeup is. Take it from the guy who had them missing playoffs before Christmas (While they were in a playoff spot) due to this same makeup. Beau for sure seems to be double clutching everything which I think another poster had noticed, he just seems to delay before getting shot off and yes he misses a lot but I prefer that to hitting center of goalies crest.
Thing is he's getting chances which is more than I can say for Wally when he is healthy and in lineup

If he has value, get rid of him. He can skate, but that is about it. He seemingly gets put to the boards a lot and loses the puck 98% of the time there. Very frustrating player to watch and if he has value, i would get something for him while i can.

I’m all for building a strong D. We already have a star goalie.

I find it incredible that an argument is being made that having a stronger D which would cost us prospects and picks won’t affect our lottery talent offense. In a vacuum do I want Chychrun? Of course, but we don’t live in a vacuum.

Beau probably has value right now, but his stock is definitely dropping fast and we should capitalize while we can. He’s way too inconsistent and has zero hockey IQ.

Comparing Beau to Wally is like comparing my wife's sister to my own. One drives a broomstick and the other is Sybil.

I'm sad for the guys who weren't around then. It's like if the Hockey gods never do another thing for us, they've already done enough

I think Sorokin is reason they can’t just go full out rebuild, might as well just trade him then if that’s the path. It’s solidify the bottom six D and revamp the forwards this deadline and this summer and get back to it in fall to compete again.

the fact that they're in for Chychrun also concerns me. If the isles genuinely are trading for him, we're gonna be in the basement for a long time.

What would you like to see as a minimum return for our players?

Nelson - 2023 1st + premium prospect
Beau - 2023 2nd rounder
Mayfield - 2023 1st & another low pick
Varly - 2023 1st or 2 2nds

dont think anyone else we would trade would garner value, maybe parise if he wants to go, unlikely.

are these realistic returns?
they all feel a little high except mayfield. Varly with retention maybe gets you a second. Beau may not have value beyond a hockey trade. Nelson probably gets around the same as mayfield

Mayfield is gonna get a chiarot tier trade because some teams are that desperate for a defenseman. take advantage of that!

I agree - the production does not match his play. I would keep Beau - the trade market will be flooded with guys like him - I don’t think the return would be worth it.

They have to find a way to move Bailey.

just trade him to like the leafs for someone like engvall
?! Engvall?

Keep Beau.

Bailey is a loyal player, he took less money than he would've gotten on the open market when he signed his last contract because he wanted to stay with the Islanders. His entire career has been in one place. I'd be shocked if he did anything to stop the franchise from progressing forward. He'll be given the Boychuk/Hickey treatment if he plays ball with whatever Lamoriello wants.
He will be on his contract year next season and maybe he will have a resurgence, as many players do when they need a new contract. If he does not, then just do not renew his contract after next year and let him walk or trade him 1/2 way to a team that may like his veteran presence for their young team. Trade him now will means give away picks.

which is just really annoying. yeah he's loyal, but he's the definition of average.

If the season ended today, based on win % the Isles would own 10th pick in the draft and 3.5% chance at Bedard.
