I mean unless that means Tro is on his way back to Raleigh when combined with @hblueridgegal 's last post, not interested.
1) Does Trocheck waive for Carolina? I feel like things didn’t end on the best of terms and he wanted to be able to settle down long term somewhere.

2) The Rangers don’t need to move Trocheck to make space; they can do it with a cheaper player. And moving Trocheck for Miller isn’t enough of an upgrade for the Rangers.

So I don’t know what Carolina would then get from the Rangers in such a deal…

I mean that's my point, nothing else they'd offer interests me at all. They'd want to trade Zib and my answer would be "f*** off"

But they could do the deal with a cheaper player than either. Does Carolina take Chytil and send Kotkaniemi to Vancouver? Could Carolina pull LaFreniere from New York?
They won't offer Laf. If the return was Chytil with Koko going to Vancouver I'd be pissed that we didn't just cut out the middle man and make the trade Koko for Miller.

The fact that the Rangers apparently came back to table after rumors began to pick up about Miller to Carolina makes me believe we are, once again, being used to drive up the price.

Let’s be positive.

What if instead of “being used” to drive up the price on all these guys, we are, in fact, intentionally driving up the price on all these guys?

Has that ever even worked? Of all the ‘stars’ that we’ve been in on, but didn’t land (Eichel, Tkachuk, Meier, EK65 etc.), do any of those teams regret anything they gave up?

Maybe Pittsburgh, but them wanting EK was always stupid in the first place. FLA, NJ and VGK aren’t sweating anything.

The Meier return was extremely high for the Devils, as well. Zetterlund has been really good for San Jose and they got a bunch of valuable pick-related pieces for him. The Flames should've taken the Canes package for Tkachuk, but Treliving was fighting to keep his job and made one last failing (but IMO completely understandable) effort to contend again.

You don’t think he’s an upgrade at 2c for what we currently have? You’d rather roll with KK?

Sure, if hockey skill was the only factor at play, it’s an easy decision. But it’s not the only factor.

KK at $4 million with a contract that’s easy to get out of if need be, or Miller at $8 million with a contract that’s going to be much more difficult to deal with if it goes south. That’s a much more difficult decision to make.

Also, the fact that KK is a 25 and under player is a major wrinkle. Large, young centers can have frustratingly-long development curves (this is an extreme case, but Tage Thompson is a prime example of this), but the payoff for being patient could be tremendous. The risk of taking on JT Miller for the right-now upgrade absolutely could be worth it for us, but the contract is still a significant risk long-term, way more than a lot of people on X would like to admit.

To me, from a window perspective, the Rangers are better suitors for JT Miller, because based on the slump of several key players this season and their lack of 25-and-under core talent outside of Lafreniere and K'Andre Miller, their window to contend is far shorter than ours is. Carolina, for a contending group, has a real treasure trove of youth in both the NHL and AHL despite the on-paper age of the current roster being high.

though i think miller is a far better player, i'd love to see the rangers give up assets to "replace" trouba's $8 million hit, for multiple years, just in time for shesterkin's monster contract to kick in. With a 30+ player. That could potentially piss off their 10-ply locker room. A locker room lavs is due to lose completely, if he stays on his usual schedule. I think that would be just swell.

I'm going to say this and bow out. I have zero interest in JT Miller. If his contract wasn't what it is, then maybe. But as of now? No.

Guentzel last year was a perfect fit and a game-changer. Miller, to me, isn't.
Miller plays the more valuable position, has scored more, and is more physical than Guentzel. I believe he and Guentzel are similarly paid and age?
