1) Does Trocheck waive for Carolina? I feel like things didn’t end on the best of terms and he wanted to be able to settle down long term somewhere.

2) The Rangers don’t need to move Trocheck to make space; they can do it with a cheaper player. And moving Trocheck for Miller isn’t enough of an upgrade for the Rangers.

So I don’t know what Carolina would then get from the Rangers in such a deal…

They won't offer Laf. If the return was Chytil with Koko going to Vancouver I'd be pissed that we didn't just cut out the middle man and make the trade Koko for Miller.

Has that ever even worked? Of all the ‘stars’ that we’ve been in on, but didn’t land (Eichel, Tkachuk, Meier, EK65 etc.), do any of those teams regret anything they gave up?

Maybe Pittsburgh, but them wanting EK was always stupid in the first place. FLA, NJ and VGK aren’t sweating anything.

The Meier return was extremely high for the Devils, as well. Zetterlund has been really good for San Jose and they got a bunch of valuable pick-related pieces for him. The Flames should've taken the Canes package for Tkachuk, but Treliving was fighting to keep his job and made one last failing (but IMO completely understandable) effort to contend again.
