ALL TRUE

However, the goalie IS part of the team, arguably more-so than Barzal or Dobson based on importance/impact.

Ultimately, it's a parity league with cap-tradeoffs and no team is perfect. The media narrative of what's right is always a lazy/recency-biased bullsht story that many cling to.

As long as team is competitive, a top goalie gives you a chance to win. Getting hot at the right time, being a fiercely-competitive playoff team is really all you can ask for.

I'd love to see an elite forward, but they are impossible to get. Panarin turning down the $12MM (whether he is worth it or not is debatable) but a single game-changing player who elevates teammates can make a huge difference in the toughest/closest games.

Kucherov/Stamkos/Hedman/Vasilevsky
MacKinnon/Makar/Rantanen
Pastrnak/Marchand/Bergeron

This is the area where the Isles are a bit off the mark, as we all see, but it's balanced by great depth, good team defense and defensemen, balanced scoring.

Barzal/Dobson/Sorokin is where elite-ish lives and it's not bad at all.
A simple (not simple at all) replacing Panarin-esque ($12MM) for any two of Bailey/Palmieri/Beauvillier/Pageau can be an enormous lift to this team.

Not sure who can fill that role, maybe Kane?
Great post except I'm Not a Kane fan for many reasons. He IS on pace for 11.71 goals so maybe all would we have to give up to get him would be worth it after all

All facetiousness aside, Kane had 26 last season and at his age with his mileage, I'd rather put what he would cost to better use

I love this post and let me tell you why. The professional sports leagues just copy each other. The Islanders were essentially one game seven win away from forcing the league to switch to a defense heavy, score by committee, strong goaltending approach. Drafts would have looked vastly different along with free agency.

Or treat him solely as a rental for the run and don’t re-sign him

See if for a few months we get the motivated version that is probably in a rut given how bad the Hawks have been lately. He might be protecting his health in his UFA status.

I doubt it’s money at this point. If he wants to keep playing it won’t be money, it will likely be where does he want to live. Three rings already, just seems keep the risk to only a playoff run.

Depending on the price. My buddy in Chicago says a 1st rounder plus a couple of players are what the Hawks will ask

Im not against the idea of Kane, but I would rather move assets for a younger player that we could resign and could help both this playoff run and into the future as well.

The only question would be is if Kane wants to play here.

I'd rather look elsewhere. Legal past aside, Kane is of dubious moral fiber

My buddy is sportscaster who lives in Arlington Heights. He does baseball and general sports talk now but has worked for the Hawks. He told me tonight that Kane has "learned how to be a down low asshole"

I don't know if he fits Lou's family culture

My friend did say that he has no talent around him and he would elevate about 8 teams into Cup contenders

He speculated either Kakko or Lafreniere plus a 1st rounder would be the starting point if Kane wants to go to Rangers

He said nothing is likely to happen until closer to the deadline

He's not in on the ground floor but I lived with this guy in college and have stayed in touch with him 45 years and trust him enough to hit him up for info

I get why people would be against trading for him. Personally i just think we should get someone a few years younger. I do think he would elevate us into a true cup contender. I also think someone like Larkin or Meier could as well.

While you make some bona-fide debatable points, once you throw in that lasr sentence, you lose all credibility with me. JGP is FAR from an overpayment or an albatross contract.
He does but he is still on the hook for three more years after this one. Will he regress in that time or manage to keep it up? If he keeps it up and produces on the dot and scores around 20 goals it's a good deal for the years to come,.

The main problem is the length of the contracts we are handing out. That should change. In a cap world, they need to manage it better so they don't end up in a new Boychuck/Toews situation. Not trading for and signing 30+ players is the first step to that.

What did the investigation turn up? It was a bunch of nothing from what I remember.
It turned out that the accuser's credibility was very questionable, but also that Kane is kind of creepy.

Even apart from the attitude stuff... I just don't think Kane fits the roster. And maybe he's able to turn on his game when he goes to a contender, but in my viewings of him this year he's looked really lazy. I don't think he'd fit all that well playing with Barzal (Panarin was, and is a far better finisher.)

Toews didn't come off too well as a leader after the K. Beach incident - at least not as some incredible leader. It's difficult to hold it against him too much, though, given that the entire franchise was an ethical black hole (probably still is). But a Wahlstrom-Toews-Barzal line would be versitile, and Toews on faceoffs would make their o-zone starts more effective. (Faceoff set-plays with Toews/Barzal/Wahlstrom/Dobson have a lot of potential.) Toews also brings his shootout prowess, which - who knows - could mean a point or two late in the season.

I don't remember the particulars at this point but I seem to recall the same thing about the accuser's credibility. What did Kane do that was creepy? I'm interested.

The plot thickens... or does it?

Palmierie to IR, Bailey and Clutterbuck are day to day? Guess they need bodies and will let the young guys marinate a bit more.

Bardreau had a great stint his first time up, maybe the team can rekindle some of that magic.

Left bite marks on her shoulder, and scratched her? Look, I'm not a prude, and my hookup days are long gone, but a person who leaves marks on a drunk girl he met that night, is, at best, a creep in my book.

Sounds like Bailey lasted 3 minutes out there and skated off. Not sure I’d be too optimistic on him tomorrow either. Lou’s words on Palmieri made it sound like he could easily play at any point the next 3 games

Different strokes for different folks, some people like different things and I'm not sure I can make any assumptions based off that.

It's pretty well known that he struggled with alcohol and partying at some points, so I don't find it outside the realm of possibility that he did something less than great (or at worst, criminal) with that woman. It's just a he said she said situation and it's really hard to figure out what the truth is.

This all seems to point to a concussion.

Simon Holmstrom is off the roster but still practicing with the Islanders.

It’s hard to say with confidence that Bailey’s play has regressed this year.

My take is that Barry gave him the benefit of the doubt last year but Lambert views him like the rest of the league does. That’s not a compliment. He’s gonna be tough to unload without a major sweetener.

Anyone who hooked up in college understands that you don't even give someone a hickey on a first hookup. It's just a creepy way to treat a person you've just met.
