Considering what it would likely cost to acquire Kane, wouldn't it have to be done with an extension in place? I don't think the Isles would want to pay the price for him to be a rental and then walk. Of course, the NYR could probably do that figuring they could most likely extend him. The Isles would be crazy to trade for him without working out an extension in advance, and that may or may not be possible.
I think I'd only want him as a rental. Not sure I'd want to sign up long term for him at that age. So that would affect what I was willing to pay at the deadline, IMO.

I stand by my prediction. You can ridicule or praise me in April.

Respect and noted.

Lebrun mentions only the Rangers and Islanders as "decent possibilities" for Kane during this segment. We need to be in the playoff picture come February/March in order to appeal to Kane to wanna come here.

Please please please...Let's not fall for the boy who cried wolf yet again.

We should all expect Kane goes to the rangers at the deadline (for a modest payment), and Lou will trade our 2023 1st for another middle-6 forward.

Kinda wonder what Kane to.Nashville would do for their chances?

I think there's something to this and whatever Trotz had going on personally.
Interesting thing to say. It’s hard argue with Trotz though because of all the success he’s had. I wouldn’t mind Barzal now that he’s committed long-term with a stars contract for him to start voicing his opinions more and giving more of his input to the coaching staff on things they like to do offensively.

We don’t have the players for that style of play and I think Trotz knew that.

And I don’t think Lou is trying to build a team like that.

There's a difference between abandoning defense and opening things up a little bit. There were rumblings that Barzal was unhappy with the system and wanted a little more freedom, maybe that was part of the reason why Trotz was let go, assuming most of the players said the same thing. I'm of the opinion that it was mostly because of the personal issues going on for Trotz that he was let go, because he couldn't give the focus required.

These media guys are the ones who said we had Kadri in the bag. "Done deal". I don't trust anything any of them say.

If Barzal is using Colorado and Carolina as examples then he is calling for a team that skates fast and whips the puck around quickly and without it skipping off the tape or going out of the offensive zone, not just a defenseman who mimics the role of a 4th forward on the attack.

I swear with my hand on a bible, our guys don’t have the mitts or the wheels to pull off what Barzy is calling for. I recognized it last season when I noticed teams like the Kings, Flames, Wild, Blue Jackets skating past us. And that had more to do with our players’ own limitations than saying “well we had Chara and Greene out there, what do you expect”?”

Could not have stated it better.

I'm sure we can fit him under the cap, one way or another....but is he gonna cost as far as compensation? We truly better be one player away at that point because guys like Kane don't come on the market all that often.

Do we want to give up Raty, Bolduc and a first (and maybe more)? I don't know the exact cost (depends on what else is being offered), but that's probably in the ballpark.

I wouldn't trade 2 excellent prospects and picks for a guy who will be 34 next month. That doesn't make good business sense.

That's nice, but other teams will pay for Kane as if he was going to resign with them so that will rule out the Isles if they take the same philosophy.

And all of this is moot anyway because Kane has a full NMC and can pick where he wants to go...And I would bet $100 with anyone that that team is the rangers.

Meh. When it comes to the Islanders people are usually wrong. When it comes to other teams they're usually right. Not all GM's think they need to protect information as if they're Russian spies.

That's exactly my point. If he's not a rental, I don't want him and someone else can have him if they want to give him term.

Id love to add Kane, and he would instantly improve this offense exponentially. Another player id love to go after at the deadline is Larkin, hes a bit younger and would fit perfectly with our core.

Mason Marchment went bonkers last night. He would look good next to Barzal right now…

He wasn’t even a top flight free agent, and New York “Hockey Trade” Islanders can’t figure out a way to move out the ineffective Beauvillier for someone who plays heavy and with an edge.
