What are folks' opinions on Mike Reilly?
What is the right # and term to resign him?
Is it a 1 year deal? Multi?
2 m? less? More?
Reilly turns 31 in July. 4 years x $2.5 million would be fair.

Bolduc is ass, until he proves he's anything more than a popcorn eater why wouldn't we keep a vet for multiple years?
Bolduc has to earn his way onto next year's team. Reilly isn't blocking him.

I'm a fan of Reilly, if not to add a bit of stabilization to the PP2. I'm really impressed by his offensive skills and you cannot discount how much he has helped out a struggling Aho.

I didn't even think Bourque or Lidstrom could have even pulled that off, but somehow Mike *Pejorative Slur* Reilly did.

*I'm just going to throw that into posts on my own just to piss off @leeroggy .

Every NHL team now has an analytics dept. Every one, including the, no-facial hair, no costumes at outdoor games Lou Lamoriello Islanders. In fact, the NY Islanders have seven employees devoted only to analytics. So, you can call it junk all you want (and lets face it, your only real purpose on these pages is to take both sides of any discussion and just poke at it, that's what you do) but the people who know infinitely more than you do have placed a value on them. Doesn't mean they're perfect or can't be challenged, but they have value or they wouldn't waste their time with them.
then the isles could also fire them like any company if they don't do their job right, and the islanders can also start to remove people like Lou as well. Engvall was absolutely an analytical trade, and for the first few games of his tenure it showed well. Pierre isn't terrible but we need him to produce consistently.

There’s the trade, then there’s the signing.

If I'm reading CapFriendly correctly, Reilly's salary this year is $1M, but he also is getting $1M in buyout money for a total of $2M. BOS bought him out of the last year of a 3 year contract at $3M per year. So he's probably not going to sign for $1M, and $3M is probably too much.

1 x $2.5M?
2 x $2M?
3 x $1.7M?

He might get more than that on the open market, but seeing as his last 2 teams (1) bought him out and (2) didn't play him, and he'll have his 2nd most GP in a season this year with the Isles, he might trade some $$ for a chance at stability.

He was a long shot play to begin with

If we are re-tooling, the only way he stays is if Pelech is traded. You can't keep playing this way if you want to get younger.

I do think the team needs more of what Reilly brings on the back end, and Roy certainly seems to like him enough. The team has 1 offensive defenseman in the top 4. Even more than forwards, that might be the biggest single issue with the team. And look at the effect now that Dobson has cooled off some. In the league now you kinda need at least one skilled PMD on the ice at all times, at least among the pairs getting serious minutes. Throwing out Pelech-Pulock or Romanov-Pulock for 20+ minutes a game stifles the offense. Reilly is a nice bottom pair PMD who can step up for a few games if a top 4 guy is out.

I'd say dump Aho and keep Reilly. Hope you can move say Pelech in the offseason and then find a top 4 PMD to replace him (maybe TOR gives up a bucket of goals in round 1 and gets knocked out and he goes "home" next summer?).

We need Engvall to play like he did against CAR in the playoffs. Him and Pulock were beasts in that series.
he needs to be the guy who hangs around the net and gets greasy. Thats where he gets good. You wanna get a good team? Then we need to see that kind of Pierre.

I think his speed on the forecheck is what I remember most from the CAR playoff series. He was relentless.

Now he is pre-Trotz Brock who I used to call a p***y every chance I could get. Or 'Lady Jane' as our old friend @majormet would call him. Maybe Engvall is now 'Lady Jenn'

I think Roy has shown his confidence in Reilly and it has all but sealed his fate and he'' be resigned.

Would think a guy like Durzi should be on the radar. Arizona is in shambles and haven't resigned a single defensemen for next season. Could make a guy like Pelech or Pulock available for a top 6 wing

That's shocking, I don't think I've ever seen that before. Have to think the players are refusing to commit without knowing the future, right?

On the one hand I cannot believe this team is going to make the playoffs.

On the other...The Metro/East is so down this year that I can.

If we go back and look at posts from Mayfield, Pelech, Dobson, and even Pulock after his hot start in the playoffs similar things were said. Bolduc is worth keeping an eye on for development and I heavily dislike how he has lost so much playing time to Aho this season. Defenseman like him who are big and can skate are not easy to get and are worth attempting to develop. I still think Bolduc will be a starting player for this organization.

I can only comment on what I see, but Bolduc seems to lack strength, specifically on his skates. He gets pushed off the puck by smaller guys pretty easily at times. If he's able to rectify that in the gym he'd be a much more effective player. I certainly wouldn't bail on him (but if he were part of a deal to get a higher end player, so be it).
