Assess? Assess what, this isn't a young team, any window they might have is another 3 years at best, can't waste them, either rebuild which isn't going to happen, or keep on trying to upgrade the roster in the next 3 years to increase the really small chance at winning a cup
Teams assess every day, week, month and year. I don’t quite follow what your getting at.

But in the case of the Isles, I think they can take this time to assess who to keep and who to trade this offseason. If you bring Roy back, who best fits his system?

Correct me if I’m wrong. But I understood your original point as either go all in or tear it down… but start that right now during this deadline?

I just don’t think the 2024 NHL deadline even offers the Isles a reason or avenue to rebuild or retool. There aren’t any major UFAs that the Isles need to decide on.

As for the “three year window.” I’m not seeing it that way. In three years the following players are what will be on the roster:

Barzal
Horvat
Engvall
Czikas

Pelech
Pulock
Mayfield

Sorokin
Varlamov

Hopefully Romanov and Dobson are signed.

The top end of that core is around or under 30. So I don’t actually see it as an impossibility that they are better then. All depends on the moves that are made in the next couple of years.

With all of that said, I’m not of an opinion that the Isles need to do one thing or the other (rebuild or go for it). Simply that I can understand them NOT doing anything at THIS particular deadline.

I’m not sure standing pat was the right move. Roy has taken all his best offensive weapons and made 1 gun which most every NHL team has and it’s paid dividends recently ! The issue is and has always been , not enough secondary scoring so as soon as teams adjust to shutting down that line and Palmieri dries up we are still the same team most have complained about. It’s possible there was nothing out there that wasn’t going to be a stupid ask and in that case , best not do something for the sake of doing something. But there is one thing I find hard to digest , is that the waiver wire doesn’t have a better option than Wahlstrom whether it be a D or Forward that can be plucked that would ease the organizations mind should they lose him when they send him down. Just don’t get it … He needs games just to be a serviceable player !

Granted I have had a couple drinks but you have been one of many of us bitching about Lou trading too much and now wanting a trade.

I gave you a "like" partly for the content of your post and partly because I see you have 414 posts since 2005. I admire your self-control. You should change your name to "E.F. Hutton". ;)
LOL. I lurk a lot on the game day threads, but don't post too often. More active on a few other places and a couple of chat groups. Been talking Isles online for 30+ years at this point.

Not sure I bitched about trading too much, maybe the type of trades like players for high picks ? I love trades as long as it addresses a need we but would prefer a few more player for player deals because I certainly don’t like the state of our system when it comes to low cost high end replacements. The point being though , is if he’s chosen this path to build on the talent for the Isles using this route, why stop? No one here can feel that this group couldn’t use more talent so why stop?

Bc they’re not winning the cup anyway.

I think Dan Milstein (Iskahov’s agent) is paying off ICB. All Bob’s been saying the last 8 hours is how much interest in Iskhakov there was, how Lou wouldn’t include him in trades, etc.

There’s no visible path for Iskhakov to make this team next year…

so while I was at work i had a good feeling we didn't make a move. I joked along and went along with my day. Isles basically dont exactly "need" a guy, and I think its better saved for the offseason, especially with the "rental" players. Go take a stab at Buchnevich or Guentzel.

how so? I think that Ishakov can have a shot to the roster, especially if pageau is moved

I mean you can just move Casey back to the fourth line and play Maclean on his wing. I could see him up tomorrow now that we can expand rosters, although him and Maggio seem to have a thing going right now that they may not want to break up. I bet Gauthier will be back as well - I think we can activate Bortuzzo and still call up two players and be cap compliant.

It's pretty foolish to pencil in any prospect as a given replacement until they prove they can handle the NHL. Will he get the chance or will Isk be the next Raty? A useful piece to lure a bigger fish as part of a package deal?

This team is now on a 5-game roll and are on a 24-10 differential, which, if RECENT memory is accurate, was the biggest knock on the team all year.

I'm glad we didn't do anything.
