Roy is a possession guy and Henrique would give us 4 50%+ FO centers. He’s paced for 25 goals the last few seasons, wears a letter, and has history with Lou. I think he’s a fairly easy target to see if they decide to keep Nelson on the first line. Would need to get 75% retained somehow though, and that might be tough.

I'll also say that while I think there has been a ton of focus on moving Brock to the top line, another huge change was the shifts in the defensive pairings. It's been said a ton of times that Roy is an analytics guy and we happen to have two under-the-radar analytical darlings in Aho and Reilly who he has chosen to play together - that has produced more analytic darling results in limited minutes.

He also broke up Pulock and Pelech which seems to have had massive implications - they seem to be thriving away from each other at this point. A full extra goal and a half per 60 from 2 players you're playing 20 minutes a night is a HUGE change. Also, Dobson is such an alpha that he has produced about the same regardless of who he's paired with. If a team came knocking for Pelech in the offseason you could make an argument for playing Bolduc in that spot and spending the $$$ on extra offense. And if you're not going to trade Pelech, there's a reason to deal Bolduc now that it looks like Reilly is going to stick.

And lastly... Mayfield. What to do about Mayfield. He's probably playing injured, but again referencing Roy's analytical preferences (and the eye test), it's hard to justify playing him over Aho when he's healthy, playoffs or not. It would be weird to move a guy you just signed to a 7 year deal but it's likely that our money is better spent elsewhere, especially if there's only 16-ish minutes a night available for him behind. All things to think about as we approach the deadline...

I get the feeling that Lou stands pat and makes his moves in the offseason. If anything it will be minor depth forward add, wahlstrom going the other way and possibly another piece. Now that I’ve said this…blockbuster loading.
yeah I think the isles should be heavy on Nik Ehlers now that I think about it. Perfect 2nd/1st line winger hybrid

Henrique is good, but he’s too old. Go for a younger guy that can be resigned long term.

Now you've done it! EVERYONE knows Aho sucks, needs to be benched and is the Keith Olbermann of Hockey IQ.

What could possibly be in Roy's mind?

Likely more of a case of turning chicken shit into chicken salad. Aho's been better than Mayfield for most of the year (hopefully due to this rumored injury that Mayfield has been playing with), but Aho still needs to be upgraded on.

I think you are going to be surprised if you think there's a bunch of 3rd pair LHD's who are comfortable on their off-hand and are available for an upgrade. Not everything is upgradable, nor will the cap allow it. His skill set is far more suited to Roy than Mayfield's is.

One simple difference is that Aho can carry the puck out of the zone, while Mayfield keeps banging it off the boards. One keeps possession and one gives it right up. Even when Mayfield fully heals, IF that happens this season, you will still see him scratched as long as we are winning.

Don't see the Jets moving Ehlers, but he would be fantastic. If this team is looking at centers, Barrett Hayton comes to mind. Can play C or LW and had 19 goals last year and looked like he was turning the corner. Often injured this year and has struggled. Could be someone who is ready to pop. Injuries and bad luck this year as he must have hit about 4 posts and scored a couple of goals that were overturned due to offsides.

I expect him there to be a bidding war for him, but Sean Walker (RD) is better than Mayfield.

Read the room. This ain’t the year to give up futures and add. Team hasn’t shown nearly enough.
Keep the pick and maybe in four years when this great pick gets to the isles, Chris lamorillo can deal a 30 year old Barzal, who has not made the playoffs in four years, for a few more magic beans.

You guys realize the draft is more than one round right? Maybe you didn’t live through the never ending rebuilds of the 90’s, it sucks. Aside from dealing the first rounder for a 37 year old future UFA, I say go for it.
