Canes don’t want prospects they want guys who can step in and play Sunday
Why would Dallas give out a roster player that can play , they dont have a noob GM , if they do send a roster player it wont be a good one , mind as well get good prospect and move on to next Year , Woody Allen screwed us by Trading our biggest asset and took on a full Hall contract , we cant do anything in the tradeline because of that , we arent going pass the 2nd round with Rant ad if get mediocre players we will be set back for a couple years . the timming was so bad , Tkachuck was so pissed off at the 4 nation that there was talk he was unhappy and maybe ready to leave Ottawa , if we still had Necas ..... Brady is exacly what we need

The lesson this organization needs to learn is to not trade for players that aren’t expecting to be traded. Even if it’s not Carolina’s fault, it’s a terrible first impression for a player to have to unexpectedly upend the life in the city he built his entire career with and deal with that, plus have the potential contract extension (which I’m 90% sure Dundon is hounding the agent over repeatedly) hovering over his head at the same time.

Although I still don’t understand why Rantanen thought he wasn’t going to be traded. Everything we heard up to that point was that he and Avs couldn’t see eye-to-eye on a new contract and he’s been in the league long enough to know impeding UFAs aren’t safe in that situation. I think he’s just got a shitty agent that’s keeping him in the dark a lot of the time.

Because Rantanen is a clear upgrade on stankoven and whatever else they would give up. Doesn’t mean those guys aren’t gonna be a good players

Agreed on the lesson learned. Dallas is doing it the correct way by talking with Rantanen first.

But typically contenders don’t trade away their UFA’s. So I could see how this blindsided him.

For me it’s either an extended Rantanen for Johnston or we walk. They likely scoff at that, which is fine. The only other way I’m fine with us flipping him as a rental is if that package goes somewhere else along with KK for a legitimate 2C.
Can’t walk now they gotta get this done

If we have to settle for Stankoven and a first for a unsigned Rantanen then at this point we might as well do it

Stankoven is a 22 year old RH forward who has played center. He is playing RW in Dallas to keep him in the top 6 with Johnson and Hintz.

It's entirely possible Stankoven is the 2C they have been searching for.

Should have gotten Miller when we had the chance still think he was the best fit for what this team needed. I think they could still get EP on a somewhat cheaper deal Van probably wants out of that contract

I mean, Rantanen holds all the cards. If he doesn't sign an extension, there's not much Tulsky can do

It would have been really tough to predict how much of a disaster Rant's time here has been so far. He is the one with the most to lose in this case. If he can figure it out here and get back to form, that's great. But if he can't - and he looks lost and lazy right now - his earnings potential is higher today than it will be on 7/1/25. Like, significantly higher. If he wants anything approaching Drai money, he needs to leave today, before his brand suffers even more. He needs to leave us today more than we need him to leave today.

Technically, yes, but no team is going to want to acquire him as a rental. For the same reason the Avs traded him and the Canes aren't keeping him.
there would be a number of a teams that would take him as a rental you don’t think Dallas would do something like stankovan and a first? It’s just the return as a rental
Isn’t gonna be as good as a signed Rantanen
