I feel Brady Skjei is a pretty similar comp. I’d give Skjei this deal, that’s a good price. Tho it might suck the final 2-3 years.

Good price? That's a ridiculous underpay compared to what he would get in UFA. I do agree, though, that it sets the "contender's rate".

Cant do 8 on Skjei.

Skjei would be more like 6.5x6 or 5.75x7. The 7 years would be hard. I'd go 6-6.5x6 on Skjei easily. If we can get skjei for under 6 and we let him walk, that sets the bar for cheap and stupid for years to come. Sorry. Dude is elite and if you can get 5 good years and one shitty one you take it.

Nikishin is a guy I think it's legitimately ok to be excited about.

Morrow is the guy you say is a future top 4 guy because you drafted him in the 2nd round and your guys are better than everyone else's guys.

Nikishin is officially in "notable prospect" territory and has set himself apart in many many ways. Every system in the league has a Morrow they're excited about that everyone here would be like "sure he's fine I guess."

If Morrow gets you Guentzel you say "yes, yes please" and you run away.

Contender rate combined with "no state income tax" rate.

That's a great deal for Florida and Gus gets the stability after developing and showing out more than many expected...

If you sign Skjei for 6 or 7 and re sign Slavin you might as well trade Nikishin as he is now effectively blocked unless you think he is never going to turn out (which again means you trade while you can)... nikishin is who you think will slot into the second pairing left d slot or make slavin move down to be second pairing if he is the stud #1...

That's why skjei is a short term or he is just as much gone as Pesce...

Today is so boring and then crazy for a little while. Painful to watch them try to fill dead air while nothing happening and then don't have enough time to cover stuff if it goes crazy...

Nothing in Skjei's style and play suggests to me he wouldnt last 6 years at the level he plays. But how long till Nikishin takes his spot on 2nd pairing, or when Nikishin takes Slavins spot on top pairing, and now Skjei is a 3rd pairing beast
That is a very valid thought. In 2 years Skjei could very well be a 3rd pair D & we’re paying him $5.75M+ on that 3rd pair.

If you have a glut you can trade his final years if you want. We will regret it, if Skjei walks. Sure Pesce is harder to replace because he's a righty. But his decline is real and Skjei is really showing no signs. He could play Burns and estall years.

You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow. Opportunity comes once in a lifetime.
Actually opportunity has come the last 5 years in a row and it looks like 6 for 6 is around the corner. The reason for that is the fact the front office doesn't "go all in" on rentals that really won't make much of a difference

If the Rangers beat us out to Guentzel and I have to watch him score against us as they knock us out of the second round i’m going to go fully toxically masculine and punch a hole through the drywall.
Oh oh did you say that last year about Mier?

If I could get Skjei for 6 x 5.75, I do it and don't even think twice about it.
Never gonna happen add another million at least at minimum

If we extend Skjei then Nikishin is forced to play 3D and I dont see that happening. Skjei is just in the way and I'm way more excited about Nikishin than I am Skjei on his 2nd contract at 30+.

Skjei has been an excellent defenseman for us, but I don't see that we have the room to keep him unless you don't wanna pay Slavin?
