Agree. At some point guys like Pono, Rees, Suzuki, etc.. need to get a chance.
We’re at a point where we need as many of those bottom six spots to be entry level/tweener contracts as possible so we can pay the top guys.

Kinda feels like the ship has sailed on these guys, at least for Rees. He surely is done with our organization, I have to imagine.

Suzuki looked good in camp but is having a disappointing year with more injuries.
He doesn’t deserve to be though, and he’s a perfect bottom six guy for the system. I don’t disagree he’s probably been passed this year but that’s on the team more than the player imo. He had a good camp for us.

If they are done with Rees, I hope they at least use him to get back a rental a la Puistola or Kuokkanen.

"eventually" "make a move there" is not the same thing as to "expect to move a goalie"

If they have 4 healthy goalies, they’re going to make a move, be it by waivers or trade. I don’t think you have to take from it a trade is inevitable.

If everyone is healthy and ready to play they would then trade Antii or keep them all with rosters relaxed?

Here’s the exact quote I was trying to paraphrase earlier from Waddell on the goalies, also a link to full interview I think( if you have Sirius):

With PK stepping up and taking the starting job and Martin looking solid, I have been wondering if this offseason we also look to move Andersen to a team looking for a starter, and make his injury proneness and unknown risk of PE recurrence someone else's mystery box.

It would alleviate cap crunch going forward if we can move out Freddie and replace him with a solid, aging veteran looking for a tandem/#2 role and willing to take a haircut to play for a Cup contender.

Every team is one top player being injured or struggling in the playoffs from being in trouble
We need another top 6 forward is all I’m trying to say pretty much and if it’s gonna be another deadline of “we like our group” then nobody should be surprised when we struggle to score in the playoffs

No one is going to give us anything for a dying Raanta. Future considerations maybe?

Martin , while awesome, can't be traded, he has to go back to CBJ first if I remember the waiver rules.

PK likely isnt gonna be sent down but COULD be.

No one would likely want Andersen with his issues and he likely wouldn't be the target anyway.

Kochetkov is no longer waiver exempt. Barring some future extended stretch of poor play that would get him waived, he’s seen the last of the AHL, outside of a conditioning stint.

Damn I didn't know that. Thought he was 2 way until end of the season. You can't let Martin go at this point. Raanta is just worse than glass at this point, and Martin as been at least as good as peak Raanta or better without the injury risk.

I believe it works like this.

If the Canes were to waive him, the team that claims him with the worst record gets the claim. So if Chicago, Anaheim, or SJS put in a claim, they would get him over CLB. CLB doesn't have first right of refusal or anything like that.

If CLB claims him and is the ONLY team to put in a claim, then they can send him down without putting him on waivers again.

The Canes CAN trade him, but when the Canes originally claimed him, if another team also put in a claim (unlikely because it would have to have been a team higher in the standings than Carolina), then Carolina would have to offer him to those teams before being able to trade him.

Do we not do the waiver list anymore?

I thought you moved to the bottom of the list after claiming a player, and that the list rotated not based on record but who made the claim? But I haven't even looked that up since before the lockout

No, there's no rotating list. The team with the worst record is who gets priority regardless of any past claims.

So we have 4 games before the deadline ( @ Wild, @ CBJ, Jets, Montreal). We are off on the 8th.

We are 7 points up on 3rd with a magic bean and 12 points up on 4th.

We have a top 10-14 easiest schedule based on opponent the rest of the way (easiest in the metro).

What to do, what to do.
