It's not a theory. It's what happened. Look at Ranger history and look at Pat Brisson history. Pat Brisson has 11 players on contracts of 7+ years now. Some of them are on their first big deal (MacKinnon), some are on their second big deal (Kopitar), and some took a shorter first deal and a bigger second deal (Giroux). Clearly he has no theory or opposition to anything and works with the parameters by the team for the specific player because he has done it all. The Rangers have given one non-UFA a deal that long in the last 15 years (Lundqvist 2nd big deal). They don't do it. It's possible it could change with JD. I already did the research on that during the summer however I do not remember the results.

so you with no actual knowledge of the private negotiations but have concluded an assumption of what has happened based on other info that you have of similar circumstances...pretty sure that is the definition of a theory :D

Tony's position on the roster isn't secure enough for him to take a short-term deal.

Hence, him and his camp will go for a long-term deal NOW.

No. It is a fact that DeAngelo's agent has not kept his players from signing deals for 7 years or longer. It is also a fact that Gorton/Sather have not signed any internal player, outside of Lundqvist, to a deal of that length. It is my belief (not a fact) that if DeAngelo signs a shorter deal with the Rangers that it is because that is what the Rangers want/are offering rather than what DeAngelo/Brisson would ideally like. That is a fairly reasonable belief looking at the history of contracts negotiated by both the Rangers and Brisson.

Not the right tread but.. Viasat, my hockey channel has been showing a lot of old Stanley Cup finals lately. Today it was 1994 Easton Conference final game six. Had only watched high lights of this before. Never saw it live. Had just changed from satellite dish to cable and did not have hockey that year.Strange match. Rangers were on the ropes in the first part of the second period. Could easily have been 3 goals down. But was totally dominant the last 30 minutes. Was New Jersey hit by nerves or fatigue or did Rangers just play up to their best?

Oh Larry...

A top 9 forward with top 6 upside would be an abysmal return for DeAngelo.

And a big f*** NO to signing Hall.

Any chance of signing Hall, however remote, disappeared entirely when we re-upped Kreider.

I dont see either of Panarin or Kreider shifting to RW, playing on a third line, or getting moved in order to accommodate signing Hall, who also would probably not shift to RW or play on the third line. We made our decision when we signed Panarin and Kreider. Those are our top-6 LWs going forward.

@Amazing Kreiderman Where do Hall, Kreider and Panarin line up?

A top 6 of:

Panarin-Strome-Hall
Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich

And before anyone starts about the "But, but Panarin and Hall are both left wingers" stuff... Sure, that is important for the first 5 seconds after a face off. How many goals have Hall or Panarin scored or assisted on when they were on the right side? A ton

People want Hall. Are fans this stupid? Rather trade for someone like Max Domi or Christian Dvorak. Hall is injury prone, known for his issues. No thanks. I'd rather try to get Nash out of retirement. Hall is overrated.

It all depends on the AAV

His AAV is going to be ridiculously high. He’ll get around 10X7 imo.

But even if it’s at a discounted 9X6 or 8X5, he’s not a player we can afford. And if we could somehow manage, he’s another pure LWr.

It realistically doesn’t depend on his AAV. He also has a very, very punchable f***ing face too, so there’s that element.
