DeAngelo needs an 8 year deal. Not a 5 year deal. We've got into so much cap trouble over the years by doing just this (in addition to giving term to the wrong guys).

if only tony and his agent were dumb enough to not know the benefits of signing a shorter deal so they can sign another huge ufa deal after it

1. trade for his rights before lotto
2. win lotto b/c Hall ju-ju
3. sign to 1yr/league min
4. win Cup
5. trade his UFA rights to lotto team before lotto
Not too high on Hall plus he was always going to want a lot of money. But I sure would much prefer to see what he can do with Panarin as opposed to Strome.

He would be the first "1st overall pick" since Roman Hamrlik to join the Rangers

I’ve already posted about this. Players value security over chancing a second larger contract for the most part. Most players take the big 7-8 year guaranteed payday as opposed to a shorter deal expecting everything to go right and then get another. The good news is his agent must in fact be dumb enough not to know these benefits as he has multiple clients on very long term deals. I am not going to do the research and post it again as I already have.

Wanting more than the 900k he got (or whatever it was) doesn’t necessarily mean he’s money-obsessed.

Exactly, the reason he didn't sign his QO, same with Lemieux, is because it was technically a pay cut. The Qualifying offer was a 10% raise based on their base salary in the last season of the ELC, but without the signing bonus they usually get every year of that ELC (unless an ELC slides).

Players rarely sign their qualifying offer when they are NHL regulars. But yeah, let's call them out for "holding out for more money". That just shows me you don't know what you're talking about.

How do you think the order of the Draft will be set? How do you think the lottery will be conducted? Will we not be included since we hold a Wild Card spot?

If it was up to me, there would be 2 lotteries. 1 for non-play off picks, one for play off picks.

The play off picks would be able to jump max 3 spots

Hall gets injured a lot and is a career -42 player. He's also only been to the playoffs once. Stay away.

1000% agree...no need for Hall here. Acquiring him would F up the rebuild. Besides we already might have a guy better than Hall in Kakko tho admittedly, we won't find out for a few more years and we'd be saving 9-10 mill per year.

He's a good player don't get me wrong but other than one sick year which might be the outlier for him, he's pretty much been an injury prone 65-70 point guy his entire career.

No thanks...a very easy pass on Hall ever wearing a Ranger sweater.

so you are going with the theory that players want security and therefore ask for 7-8 years deals but gorton then says no i'd rather sign you to a shorter deal with worse terms for the team?:naughty:

Following up on this conversation from yesterday, Tony strikes me as someone that would hold out for money

If he takes anything more than a 4/5 year deal this year I'd be stunned frankly. People throwing around 7/8 years for him, that seems highly unlikely to me

And Hall is on the downswing, no thanks. The team also doesn't have the money to sign him so the point is moot

It's not a theory. It's what happened. Look at Ranger history and look at Pat Brisson history. Pat Brisson has 11 players on contracts of 7+ years now. Some of them are on their first big deal (MacKinnon), some are on their second big deal (Kopitar), and some took a shorter first deal and a bigger second deal (Giroux). Clearly he has no theory or opposition to anything and works with the parameters by the team for the specific player because he has done it all. The Rangers have given one non-UFA a deal that long in the last 15 years (Lundqvist 2nd big deal). They don't do it. It's possible it could change with JD. I already did the research on that during the summer however I do not remember the results.
