And we wait till the last second...to not qualify him and accept the picks. muah-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Strome seems like a smart guy (off the ice) and well-liked in the lockeroom. If I were him, this would have been one of the best years of my life: traded from Edmonton to New York City, to a young fiery team from...whatever the Oilers are, and he gets to play with the league MVP; #1 PP time, finally used as a #2C, etc. He may get more money or term somewhere else but he’s never going to find himself in such a fortuitous position again; maybe he’ll use his head and give us a break on the AAV, or bet on himself keeping this up for two more seasons.

You know if Panarin starts to lose, he'll just pull out some real contract cash and buy up everything.

It was a comment about how Carolina messed with MTL, then signed Aho last second.

New fan checking in.

(some of it because i've been a disgruntled flames fan for a while now, but the news of the inhumane and greedy ownership refusing to pay the saddledome arena staff and such during this covid blackout time pushed me over the edge.

i was debating between the Flyers and the Rangers because i am a diehard 76ers fan, but i just couldn't do it. i have a Rangers shirt too so i took it as an omen)

interested in learning more about (the nuances of) our Rangers during this off time ❤️

I believe only the Bruins have not pledged payment, per updated sources.

I think there are much bigger issues at hand than whether or not the arena workers are paid their likely $300-$500 they would have made (before considering taxes) for working the remaining 5 or so home games. It's purely a PR move. I'm essentially out of my second (and generally higher paying) job for the foreseeable future and don't see anyone campaigning to compensate me for that since it's not in the public eye.

So, it starts to seem like there is an overwhelming risk for that this Corona thing will have a lasting significant effect on the economy. First this phase that we are in right now, but secondly of course through all the ripple effects in the economy. A situation stress testes everything in a way that doesn't happen normally, there will be collateral damage.

Anyway, the topic for this post is that we got a whole new cap situation going forward the coming 2-3 years -- possibly at least. And I don't think they will let the cap actually go down no matter what, that just don't make any sense and there is no need for it. At least not over a 2-3 year period.

This really has a huge impact on how Gorton conducts his business. The market is significantly differs when everyone are in a cap squezz compared to when the cap have gone up a lot. In the former you got 15-20 teams looking to dump contracts and in the later you have 15-20 teams looking to improve their roster.

For a team like Toronto, this is a disaster. They took a calculated risk on the cap going up a lot, and would have been in a really good place with a cap going up 4-5m per year for 3-4 years. To the same extent, we would certainly have been in a better place, with the Trouba and Panarin signings, had the cap gone up as was expected. But its not like we are in a horrible place either.

1. With a stagnant cap, cap space in itself becomes really valuable. Teams will move 1 year terms of a 1st.

For taking on 6.25m x 1 year Carolina -- got the identical return we will end up getting for Skjei, i.e. Toronto's 1st. On the same topic, I think the timing for Gorts to move Skjei probably was pretty good...

We will see the same going forward.

In addition, there will be really solid value trades to be made.

2. It should probably spell the end for Jesper Fast in NY. We can't afford any "luxuries".

3. By my numbers we can keep everyone and get a lot of mobility if Hank retires. That would be huuuge for us.

4. It would be great if we could get creative with Brendan Smith. Otherwise Gorton should consider a buy-out.

Agreed. It’s just a bunch of whiny people who hate successful people and want someone to direct their anger at. I’m still working with a bunch of dumb people who don’t wash their hands and just arrived from trips to China but don’t quarantine, I wish I could just not work and still get paid lmao. The season was nearly over and most those people probably have other jobs in the first place. Missing 5 games justifies some sort of giant internet smear campaign?

You sound a bit insensitive. There are bigger issues for sure & obviously bigger issues to you, but I'm sure you wouldn't be so callous if you were in the same boat. That $300-$500 might sound insignificant to you, but for those arena workers, I assure you it's substantial. Not that I don't sympathize with your situation, but most of those folks only have one job. At least you have a second income source.

Per Google, avg food cost for 1 person for a month is $244. Presumably higher in a big city like NY. So $3-500 is about a month's worth of just food for 1 person, nevermind rent, utilities, etc.

I have a problem with telling people how they should spend their money. Why should people who work for a sports team get paid out of pocket by the owners but not people who work in the restaurant business, theater business, movie business, casino business or anything else that has currently shut down? You can't expect all businesses to pay people for not working that's a good way to ensure that when this is over there won't be any business any more.
