Looks like Forsberg will get the Mark Stone treatment. A team that trades for him is probably going to want to re-sign him, if not right away then definitely leading up to July 1st. There's zero chance of fitting him in here after this season. Just not worth the bidding war and the assets that Nashville is going to demand (and most likely get.) Sit this one out and just trade for Rakell.

Counterpoint: Trade for Forsberg, play him at RW. Extend in offseason. Strength on the wings allows you to go for a cheaper defensive 2C. It worked for the Blackhawks when they won their Cups.

We have a month until the deadline, might as well think outside the box

Wonder if MTL will still trade Caufield for Nils?
If anyone who watched the playoffs last season and thought that was even a remote possibility we could get Caufield for Nils isn't being objective. Hate to say it but if he plays with confidence like he is now he is easily a 30 plus goal scorer in this league.

As long as those centers can win faceoffs. That is a big need going into the playoffs. Defensive zone draws and winning the draws on the powerplay is a big need. I wish we had a Bergeron type here. I also wish Mika and Strome was better at faceoffs%.

Forsberg's going to cost $8 million+ to extend. No thank you.

aren't the preds fighting for their playoff lives right now? They should get in since I don't trust any of the pacific to put in any wildcard teams. I guess they feel they can't lose him for nothing?
They probably would want a young roster player that can probably contribute right away like a Chytil. We don't really have the luxury of offering them anything else right now.

Maybe they think Chytil or Kravtsov could help them this year in a top 6 role. I wouldnt even consider trading Forsberg if i was NSH, but they are a small market team that probably cant afford to lose a guy of that caliber for nothing.

I guess we are trading away Trouba this summer then.

Forsberg will be 28 in August. He's going to command a 7 year deal as a UFA (taking him to 35) and that contract is going to start at 8.5M per and it wouldn't surprise me at all if it ends up being over 9M.

Current cap projections have us struggling to fit Strome in even if he doesn't get a raise. How would we fit another winger at 9M?

Idk just spitballing. Im fine trading for him as a rental too anyway. beats talking about Greg McKegg for 10 pages

If Forsberg is indeed on the market, that’s another piece someone will trade for. Helps the market.

Buyers market and the Rangers have the assets and cap space to get anyone they want. I almost expect to add 2 forwards before the deadline passes

Blackhawks have won exactly 0 playoff rounds since signing Toews and Kane to their big contracts.

Glad to see my stupid trade proposals involving random other teams on the main boards get as much idiotic attention as half the Rangers threads that are throwing shit at a wall

That is a high price for a rental.

He is the type of rental you make a move for. not for Ben Chariot or a position that is overstocked. RW is lacking big time. Do we want to see Hunt on the 2ed line in the playoffs? I don’t. Kakko and Blais will need time to get into gameshape and they have to take that into consideration.

I’d love to add a player like Forsberg to the top-six. But I don’t think Forsberg alone gets us over the hump.

Unless we could move Trouba, we can’t keep him after this postseason. For that return, we’ve shot our wad and won’t be able to re-load for next season.

FWIW, I don’t think Chiarot is a good add at all.
