He is the type of rental you make a move for. not for Ben Chariot or a position that is overstocked. RW is lacking big time. Do we want to see Hunt on the 2ed line in the playoffs? I don’t. Kakko and Blais will need time to get into gameshape and they have to take that into consideration.
I sure hope Kakko comes back this year. Very little chance Blais does so he has plenty of time to get into playing shape for october 2022.

I’d love to add a player like Forsberg to the top-six. But I don’t think Forsberg alone gets us over the hump.

Unless we could move Trouba, we can’t keep him after this postseason. For that return, we’ve shot our wad and won’t be able to re-load for next season.

FWIW, I don’t think Chiarot is a good add at all.

Forsberg is worth more the risk than trading a 1st for Lehkonen.

Some stupid team might trade a 1st for him. Hope Drury does not cave. I would not even do Lundkvist for Lehkonen, should have just kept Jesper Fast. Same type of player.
I doubt Lehkonen costs a 1st.
I wouldn’t pay that for him, but I’d def do krav+ a lower pick for him and keep him beyond this season

You still have the same problem. Is this team committing to laf/kakko in top 6 spots, or not?
Any type of winger add should be a Swiss Army knife type. If the kids shit the bed, they can move up in the line up and play an honest shift with top 6 guys.
If not, they are above average bottom 6 guys.
I don’t think you see any high dollar/cap hit add until at least the offseason, because you don’t want a pouty strome/panarin duo going into the playoffs.
It they know strome is an impossibility to resign, I can absolutely see that being a factor in their overall play.
They aren’t going to tinker with the chemistry like that during a playoff run.
The best adds remain to be Copp/Lehkonen/Brown/Jarnkrok/Boyd/Tierney type players.
I’m sure If Drury can get his guy for his price, ( the strome replacement) or the trade is too good to pass up, he’ll make the move and roll the dice.
I just don’t see anyone of that magnitude being available until the offseason/draft anyway.
GG has to start getting more creative with what we have and find out if it works and is viable long term..... that could also impact what we look for at the TDL.
Mainly Barron playing and Chytil shifting to top 6 RW while Kakko is out and injured...
He’s going to have to try different variations on 3rd line because right now they are just taking up space.
If Barron or chytil work long term, then maybe you only need to add 1 of Copp/Lehkonen.
Either way, I wouldn’t expect too much roster turnover at the TDL.
I’d be happy with adding 1 of Copp/lehky and shipping Geo out for something positive.
Mainly, I want to see what Barron and chytil can do in house first.
If they both had 15-20 games at those spots so far, we’d know a lot more by now.

3 goals on 9 shots against Mike Smith. Oilers have dominated play for the most part. I honestly think if you put Georgiev on that team and let him play every night it would stabilize everything for them. Im a little surprised we havent heard about their interest in him
Too risky for Edmonton though. You’re probably right but I reckon they’re done with taking chances on “up and coming” goaltenders. They’ll go find a legit starter from a non-playoff team. I guess.

I keep reading that it’s a buyer’s market this year. How come? To me it seems like a seller’s market. Very few teams totally bombed out.

Give it another 2 weeks and that can change.

8 teams in the Eastern should be in the sellers camp already with no chance.

3 teams in the Western probably become 6 teams a couple weeks from now.

The lack of cap space is what makes it a buyer's market.

Many teams will be in the playoff hunt until the bitter end. They desperately hope for the extra playoff revenue.

We really need to sticky a reminder that Jesper Fast very likely didn’t want to sign a contract here. The kid immediately talked shit about the organization when he left. It takes two to tango.

Edmonton has Barrie, Ceci and Bouchard on the right side. Nurse is signed long-term. Broberg is a former 1st round. Both of them are LHD. Does Edmonton have interest in Robertson? He played his junior hockey in Edmonton and he is from there.

Georgiev and Robertson to Edmonton for Holloway? Edmonton doesn't make that trade. Do they?

Edmonton has been scouting the Rangers AHL team. The Rangers have their prospect D and that is about it.

i was thinking Yamamoto makes some sense but they likely want Chytil in a package

Georgiev , Robertson make some sense in a package . Taking a chance on Koskinen sucking as a backup though

3 games in 4 nights so doubt anything happens for a week

I can’t believe Georgiev is the answer to Edmonton’s goaltending woes. I think he would probably be an improvement for them but they need more of a sure thing.

Forsberg is exactly the type of rental we DON'T make a move for. He is having a career year and he already makes 6 mil. He's going to be very expensive to acquire and we can't afford to re-sign him. Is he going to play on the PP for us? If so, whose spot does he take? Strome is the only possibility, and that would leave us with 5 RH shots on the PP. As good as our PP has been, I don't see GG messing with it.

We need to set our sights lower. Get a cheaper, middle 6 RW who can get to the net and score dirty goals. Reilly Smith would have been perfect, but it looks like that ship has sailed. There are other options that may work, depending on cost. We shouldn't be blowing our load though on a guy we can't afford to keep.

That’s just not true. I don’t know where this is coming from.... Fast was relieved he wasn’t dealt at the TDL that year. He wanted to be a ranger.
Not only were Carolina offering more money in terms of taxes/etc, the sticking point was Gorton would only offer the 28 year old 2 years.
Carolina has no problem going the 3rd year....
It’s no wonder he talked shit when he left. Our teams then absolutely had issues. He also so the way we played under torts etc because he was here and how soft we were etc. we def had a lot of issues.
But how do you not extend a 3rd year to the multiple time Steve MacDonald award winner??? At a 2mill cap hit to boot?? That’s not a tremendous raise from what he was making.....
He was also getting minutes with bread/strome.... he loved NY. There wasn’t much of a reason for him to choose Car over staying here if the contract lengths were similar...
The Carolina deal gave him the extra year of security. That’s likely what pissed him off and he chose to leave at that point. Fast loved NY, and loved being a ranger.

Makes sense. Writing is clearly on the wall for all 3 of them…I’d love to give Kravs one last go, but if the right deal is out there I wouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger.

Russian borders appear to be closed to civilian air traffic at the moment. I expect that will be solidified for the long term today. We shouldn’t expect any trades involving KHL-based players any time soon.

Counterpoint: Trade for Forsberg, play him at RW. Extend in offseason. Strength on the wings allows you to go for a cheaper defensive 2C. It worked for the Blackhawks when they won their Cups.

We have a month until the deadline, might as well think outside the box

I’m all for it, but I don’t see how it can work with our cap situation next year. We only have $10M free with Kakko and Blais needing new contracts. If Strome walks, 2 and 3 C are a mystery. Plus we need a back up goalie.

And there’s no obvious contract to move. Nemeth only frees up $2.5M, Lindgren only frees up $3M and there’s very little chance they move him. They could move both for more cap relief but that guts the entire left side of our defense. And moving someone like Kreider or Trouba, who I view as the de facto captains of this team, is a huge risk solely for the sake of cap relief.

Fair enough. I’m just talking from a hockey perspective…the terrible situation over there is only going to add to the trivial issues surrounding the Rangers and Kravs though.
